6 weeks - High HCG but Empty Sac

I am measuring 6 weeks and 2 days today but have had 2 ultrasounds that showed nothing but the gestational sac.  No fetal pole, no baby and no heartbeat.  My HCG is high....it was 6000 last Monday and jumped to 23000 by Saturday.  I am wondering if I should consider this a blighted ovum at this point or if there is still hope.  I take progesterone and my doctor wants me to stop taking it and let my body miscarry on it's own but I am reluctant as I want to believe it is still a viable pregnancy.  I look forward to hearing your experiences and advice.

It is still early enough that they might not have seen baby. It really depends on the technology they use, the skill of the technician, etc. Please please keep us updated and let us know what happens!

Thanks for sharing your experiences and advice.  I am going to wait a week, stay on the progesterone and see what happens.  My measurements match up with my ovulation date so I am pretty sure we haven't miscalculated # of weeks.  I have no symptoms of a blighted ovum at all...not one.  Who knows, I will just have to hope for the best.  It helps to hear what you all have to say, so thanks!

I would ask to wait another week and have the u/s repeated...I would then go ahead with those results and do what the doctor thinks.  If the level of hcg is 23000, you should be able to see something or VERY close to seeing something so the week would be accurate if you had another u/s then.  I believe at 25000 you are supposed to see something.  Good luck!

I agree with depressed.  If your numbers are going up, then maybe you just ovualted late and are not as far along as you think.  I would wait a week or two and then have another ultrasound.  I think that you numbers going up sounds encouraging.  Not everyone developes at the same rate, so maybe your baby is just getting a slow start.  Pray, Pray, Pray, and I think God will lead you to the answers that you are looking for.  I don't think it is just a coincident that you chose NOT to have the last D&C.  Mabye God is trying to tell you something since you keep having second thoughts.  Is it possible to get a second opinoin from another obgyn and get their opinion or maybe your pcp?  Good luck and please keep us posted.  I'll say a prayer for you.  Kasie

are they going to repeat the u/s or is the two you had it? well I had a blighted ovum in Dec 07  and had about two u/s and both times and nothing was there...the only think I can say is that maybe you are not far as you think because your levels are going up and not down. I would do one more u/s and then decide from there or if your numbers starting falling.Good luck
