17 weeks pregnant and have a fetal movement question

ok, so I'm 17 weeks pregnant.  I am worried because my normal weight, before I was prego was like 165ish and I only weight like 171.  Shouldn't I be gaining more weight by now.  And secondly I haven't felt the baby yet, well not a movement that I can say hey, that was baby.  I am worried that it has stopped growing or something.  I have only had one doc. appt. but they did see the heartbeat on ultrasound, I go back in a week which will make it four weeks ago since they saw the heartbeat.  I just hope everything is going good in there.  This is my first child so I'm all worried.  Who out there has been in the same boat.  Should I already be feeling baby?

I gained 75 lbs in the first 3 months I was pregnant with my first kid, even though I gained so much, the doc was never worried about it. I gained 20 lbs in the first 4 months with my second child and list 15 of it within 2 months.  Everybody is different. My weight gain and losses never worried my doctor and I had a healthy baby the first time and all signs point to the second baby being just as healthy.

Don't worry about the movements yet.  As was said above, it's most likely you'll feel movement in about a month, maybe two.  How much weight you gain depends on whether you are stick thin, middle of the road, or heavier.  At 165, I would guess you're closer to middle of the road or heavier (since you didn't include a height).  A 6 pound weight gain isn't a problem at this point.  And don't worry about it unless your doctor tells you to.  I didn't gain any weight with my last pregnancy and just ended up being trimmer afterwards - that was perfectly fine with my doctor since I was overweight.  Sounds like you're doing just fine.

I agree with Clysta.

If you feel it's a truly urgent matter, call your doctor's office and express your concern(s). They might be able to move your appointment up and get you in sooner. If not, I'd go to the hospital or Urgent Care.

Best wishes, chic! I hope everything is just fine! (And I'm willing to bet it is.) ;-)

First time mothers can take a lot longer to feel the baby. It's not uncommon for you to be 20-24 weeks before you do. As for the weight, no you don't have to be more. Some don't gain weight till the very end. Unless your doctor is concerned about it, you shouldn't be either.
