Pregnancy & the Swine Flu: Are you taking any extra precautions or worried moreso than if not pregnant?

Pregnancy & the Swine Flu:  Are you taking any extra precautions or worried moreso than if not pregnant?

I've read a few posts on MedHelp by members who are pregnant and school teachers -- that's what prompted me to post this poll.

Keep in mind the scary terms they use like epidemic and pandemic. All these things mean is it is something out of the norm spread person to person and pandemic means it is found world wide. Our yearly flu is a pandemic every year. We don't hear about it because it is considered normal for that to happen with that virus every year. It is just because it is a different virus that isn't common.

From what I understand, the antivirals that they are using can NOT be used in pregnancy. But, all of the cases have been mild. The only death here was of an infant from Mexico. Chances are if Mexico had better health care then there probably wouldn't be as many deaths.

The time to worry is when this starts killing a lot of people here in the US. Until then, wash your hands regularly with warm soapy water, DO NOT touch your face, and avoid anyone that is sick or coughing (this is a respiratory flu).

As far as the flu being dangerous to the fetus, It really isn't since it has its own blood supply, BUT a fever in you COULD be harmful to a fetus.

This is a good question.  I wander how dangerous it is to the fetus of a pregnant person?  From what I'm hearing it's not considered deadly in the U.S. (yet) so it's treatable (but how safe are the antiviral meds during pregnancy?) But it's on the verge of being a pandemic.  There's two "probable cases" (not yet confirmed) here in the state I live in.  All schools in that county are closing for 7 days.

I have 3 kids in school (in a neighboring county) and I'm 20 weeks pregnant with twins.  I too, have caught every cold that's gone around since being pregnant.  Our immunities are so low anyway.  This is a little frightening to me.

I am not worried at all its a mild flu, its just a flu in my opinion.  I do as I always do, wash my hands frequently and avoid sick people, that's it.

I am a bit worried too. I also have been sick with this pregnancy and had some "scares" that could have affected the baby. Thank god the baby is healthy! So yes I am taking precautions and washing my hands and carrying around anti-bacterial foam to use on my hands. Also watching out for sick people and if they are coughing.

I am a little bit worried. I have already been so sick with this pregnancy that I don't need to catch that too. My DH is a school teacher and so far I don't think we have any cases in our school district. The Fort Worth school district has completely shut down. I will just try to avoid to many public places.
