So scared & upset!

I've been having contractions everyday for over 3 weeks now, my blood pressure has gotten high, and I've been swelling like crazy. Every test they run for my kidneys comes back fine but they don't know why I'm contracting so early (I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow). Well I received a letter from a doctor at my normal clinic (Native American Hospital) saying that I had a blood thyroid test done in October of last year came back abmnormal & I need to come back for more tests. Why in the hell did they wait so long to tell me? I have been back there multiple times since October & nobody ever said anything! I probably shouldn't have Google'ed it but I did & everything I read said that if my thyroid isn't functioning properly during pregnancy that my baby's brain & nervous system might not have developed correctly. Does anyone know anything about thyroid issues during pregnancy? I'm upset they didn't tell me & I'm so scared that there could be something wrong with my baby.

OK ... update. They re-checked my thyroid & its functioning low. Was put on meds for that. Then they re-checked my platelet count & they have dropped also. So, I was put on meds for that also. I go back next week for more tests & monitoring to see if the meds work.

Thanks ladies! I have been going crazy thinking about everything and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will finally find out what's been going on. I have an appointment tomorrow with the baby doctor. The nurse last week said I would probably be sent back to L&D for more tests and monitoring after my appointment.

OH, and if it's pregnancy induced, it MAY not go away after you deliver, mine didn't, in that case you take medication, and I am right now, pregnant with my 2nd, taking medication, and doing just fine! :)

I also have an underactive thyroid, sometimes it's pregnancy induced, and if it's only slightly elevated, it isn't a big concern, if it's very elevated, then it may be more so, I had an untreated underactive thyroid with my son, by the time they caught it, it was too late to try treating, and didn't want to throw the baby a new medication, and he's perfect, very, very smart, never any problems. I wouldn't stress about it, it's really common during pregnancy!

My cousin was pregnant with twins, had similar problems. She gained 90 lbs and afterward she couldn't lose the weight and ended up getting a biopsy done of her thyroid, she has a form of thryroid cancer now. I hope that everything gets better for you and that they find out what is wrong. Goodluck hun.

yes. you will most likely be put on medication. I have an underactive thyroid and have to be on medication permanently. I have 2 healthy children though.
