I'm on the same boat, trying not to touch my daughter as much, even if she really can't get it, i feel more secure that way. Just got it yesterday too.
They are a form of herpes, but not genital herpes (of course). They spread from the sore being open and touching someone with the clear ooze that comes from them. If you just got it, keep it covered up with polysporin cold sore patches. Also treat it with Abreva. Wash your hands often if your touching your face. Your little one should not become affected with what you explained of just getting it.
Your best bet, keep it covered, and wash your hands often. :)
Be careful cold sores on the lip is of form of herpes. Read of a incident in Australia where a family member kiss a baby with a sore lip and the baby end up dead. Please seek professional advice. Good luck.
I don't know how it spreads. I do know that whenever my mom gets one she does not kiss my daughter. Her decision, she used to be a nurse. I do know it's a form of herpies though.
My mom gets them and my family kisses on the lips. I've never gotten one.
I've never ever in my life had a cold sore, i've been kissed (on the cheek) by family who's had cold sores and i still never get them. Your baby will be fine, don't stress about it :)
I'm not sure what causes you to get cold sores in the first place but u cannot get them if you do not already have the virus in u. For example, my dad gets cold sores but my mom doesn't so even if he gets one and kisses her, she will never get one. I wouldn't worry about it.
