Miscarriages:

I figured there must be a decent number of women who are pregnant or have recently been pregnant on this forum who have had a previous miscarriage.  I am trying to see what the average length of time after the miscarriage that women get pregnant.

I personally, don't put much in store to the whole "You're more fertile after a miscarriage" statement, because for me...it SO wasn't true. I had a m/c in Sept of 09 at around 5 weeks. Anyways, I lost my first pregnancy in Sept of 09 and then stopped ovulating. It took me until April of 2010 to get my bfp, and I had to use Provera to unduce my period and Clomid to induce ovulation so that I could get pregnant. So, after my miscarriage it took me a whole six months and  medical intervention to conceive again. I know that this isn't normally the case, but The first pregnancy ended due to low progesterone levels and I nearly lost my second pregnancy the same way. Idk, I guess it's different for everyone, as I've known women who conceive habitually.

Yeah I agree with Petite that's the same thing my dr told me they want you to wait until you get your period again and can use that as a date. I'm sure there are some more complicated cases where the dr sees a medical need in having the woman wait a few months.

I don't know why you would be more or less fertile seems like it should be the same as before. I have heard several women say they pg right away, but I hate to see people count on that because it's not always the case.

Also I think it's always better to go the natural route is possible and avoid any mishaps with the d&c.

Ah! Yes I knew that, actually.  Thank you, very informative.  That does actually make sense.

The reason why they recommend you wait at least 1 cycle after a miscarriage is generally not always related to risk of furhter issues.. the main reason is for dating purposes...  Two cycles and so far also make more sense because you are more likely to return to a normal cycle making dating more accurate..  Accurate dating is pretty important..  You may think it does not matter that much because they can get a dating u/s done  but in the beginning this can cause alot of unnecessary stress..  if you expect to be 8 weeks and you turn out to only be 5 with only a sac then it puts you through further testing and grief when it could be perfectly normal because your cycle is not always normal after a miscarriage

if u have a d&c its generally 3 cycles because your uterine wall tends to be thinner than average...

There have been people on this board who got pregnant the same week as an early miscarriage and had a very healthy baby...

I missed your post originally, Nicmom. I do not plan to TTC.. I am just going to do the same thing I did before, and just let what happens happen.  I don't want to stress myself out over trying, so I'm not really going to try, just let our bodies do what is right.  I am going in to see a Dr. ASAP, I will be trying tomorrow to make an appointment and see what he has to say.  I hear confliction.  A) you are more fertile after a miscarriage.  B) you need to wait after a miscarriage.  I am not sure why A would be true.. and I'm not entirely sdure why B would be necessary either.  As long as my uterus is clean and healthy and my hormones are stable.. I think emotionally I can handle it.

Are you looking to get pregnant again right away? Most doctors will say to wait at the very least one cycle, so after your next period you could try again. Though typically, it would be good to wait about 3 cycles and then try. You want to give your body time to get back to normal.

hmm...  I read that it might be harder after D&C.  See this is why I ask these questions to get testimonies.  I believe I had a blighted ovum, and everything passed pretty quickly. I plan to see an obgyn ASAP to ensure everything is back in order. But, they didn't see anything in my uterus on the ultrasound and my hormones were normal by the time i got to the hospital, which was just after I had passed most of it.

I heard that if you have a d&c its easier to get pregnant. Not a miscarriage exactly. Some older women even get elective d&C's just to clean the area out so its easier to concieve. I had a miscarriage and a d&c and found out 6 weeks later I was pregnant.

My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum in aug 2010 (i cant believe its almost been a year)...  I ended up getting a d&c because I was showing no signs of passing it and the sac had stopped growing 5 weeks earlier...  My HCg took about a week and a half to crawl down.. From time of hte d&c and my first period, it was 6 weeks (a little over f4 weeks from when my hcg return to below 5)....  My doctor wanted me to wait 3 cycles...  I decided I would wait at least 2....  So I waited 2 and then we started ttc... I didnt use ovulation kits, just went off my body signs and used no protection....

We conceived again during the 3rd month of trying to conceive..  I am now almost 28 weeks along and so far have had no complications so far though it was an emotional rollcoasater in the beginning as I could not feel confident that things would be okay..

The total time from the time of d&c and new conception was around 6 months....  but like I said we didnt start trying to conceive until November ( we used protection until that point) and I conceived in the end of January.

i had a blighted ovum last November. I know my HCG levels went down quite fast after it had all passed. Doctor told me to wait 6 months before trying again, i dont think you generally have to wait that long just one cycle. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant with my 3rd =)

I had a m/c earlier this year.  My doctor said that I could start trying straight away I didn't have to wait for a period.  I did and conceived straight away and am at 14w 1d and counting.

I would follow the advice given to you by your doctor.  Most women who post say that they were told to wait for one cycle.

Best of luck :)

My second pregnancy was a natural mc no d/c needed. I started trying again just a few weeks later and tried for about 4 months. For me the fun of trying got lost after the mc because I was so stressed out about getting pregnant again right away. We took a break and came back to it 8 months later and that time it only took us two months before we got pregnant and I think it only took that long because of bad timing.

I can tell you what my ob shared with me. The fact that you have already had one healthy baby is a great sign. Odds are your next pregnancy will be healthy and complication free. I thought about that over and over and sure enough my next pregnancy was healthy and we had a baby girl.

One thing I don't see other people talk about too much is the stress you put yourself under when you start ttc right after a mc. If it doesn't happen right away don't be bummed out. Also don't keep track of the timeline from a mc such as I would have been 3 months or 4 months. If you are healthy and happy then you'll have a better outcome. That said good luck ttc again when you feel ready.

Ps, at the hospital they said my hormones looked "normal" as in very non-pregnant.  I had already passed most of everything. How likely is it that it was a blighted ovum? I wish I had answers to some questions that cannot be answered!

Ok. I just would like a lot of personal stories, thanks.  I wonder when I will get pregnant with a healthy lasting pregnancy and wonder of common trends. I know we all vary, but stories help. I read one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, which just shows that my having one miscarriage is not necessarily an indication that it is more likely to happen again. I am just so scared of another, more difficult m/c.. I have one healthy boy already, which I am thankful for.. and this was unexpected.
Any and everyone's stories are welcome!

it is easier to get pregnant right after a mc, drs do recommend to wait to get ur hormons back into order... after a mc ur more fertile so its easier to get pregnant

i had a mc dec 23 09 and get pregnant jan 4th-jan 18th 10 i now have a healthy 9mo old.... so it is evidence that u can get pregnant easier....

It varies quite a bit. Most doctors recommend waiting a few cycles (at least one and often three) before trying to conceive again. Some women do not wait and start trying to conceive again right away.

It is usually no more difficult to conceive after a miscarriage than it was before (some folks even say it is easier but I've never seen any empirical evidence of that...just anecdotal).
