I'm confused with the pronunciations as well. If spelled Cyrus, will you pronounce it \sī-rus\ or \seer-rus\?
I think if you're going for the \seer-rus\ pronunciation, you might consider spelling it Cirrus (like the cloud type) or Cyrrus, to avoid having most people think it is pronounced \sī-rus\ being spelled Cyrus. I'm thinking you're pronouncing it as \seer-us\ since you're considering the alternate spelling of Sirius.
That said, I'd stick with Cyrus (but maybe tweak the spelling?), because Sirius is a completely different name, and pronounced differently unless you change the spelling to Sirrus or Syrrus.
Sirius makes me automatically think of the character Sirius Black from Harry Potter.
Thanks for the tip but its not any of those. and thanks guys for all your advice!
Sirius reminds me too much of the character in Harry Potter. And if you're going for the long y sound it doesn't look right. I really like the name though!
I also agree about the pronunciation of the two. I would go with Cyrus or maybe even Sirus or Syrus but not Syrius. It reminds me of Serious as the above poster said.
I also wanted to mention that it is against MedHelp's terms of service to post information such as last names, email addresses, phone numbers, etc.
I agree with huluhutgirl on the pronunciations - it really depends on your intentions. From experience I encourage you to choose a name that isn't confusing or requires constant correction in spelling or pronunciation. As a recipient of such a name, it's frustrating even after all these years.
for some reason i like the look of Cyrus better, Sirius just doesn't look right to me.
I'm confused... I read those both completely differently. I read the first with a Y sound... like a Cyprus tree... and the second with -ear sound like Serious.... so which sound are you going for?
I voted Cyrus. That's how I would spell it. :)
