Can the pill work for over a year and then not?

After being on birth control for over a year can it suddenly not work anymore?  I am like 3 days away from missing my period and this is really unusual for me and I normally have my period by now.  My fiance and I have had sex pretty much every other day all month if not every day.

When you were on the pill for 3 years then got pregnant, did you miss pills?

I got pregnant on the patch and the pill.. I started the pill when i was 15 to regulate my cycles.. went on the patch at 16, got pregnant, and then after my D&C went on the pill and got pregnant again at 18 on the pill.. You can get pregnant on birth control.. and I got pregnant on birth control the first time a year after starting it and the second time 3 years after starting it..

Well if you get off of it for a month, they usually say it takes a full month for the pill to become effective again, so usually they will recommend condoms during that time.  If during that next month you missed a few days, then yes your chances are high of getting pregnant.  Not as high as someone off of the pill, but it will not be 99% effective as stated in the package insert!

As joy said there is ALWAYS a 1% risk that the BC will not be effective.  There's no time limit of when that 1% may occur.  For some women it may NEVER fail...for others it may fail once and for yet some others it may fail more than once.  It has to do with YOUR bodies reaction to the hormones and how regularly you take it.  Even if you took one of the pills slightly later than normal it could affect the effectiveness.  I wouldn't worry just yet.  Wait and see ifyou really do miss your period first.  If it's late, take a PT.

I know the doctor who put me on BC the first time I got pregnant, said that if I even miss one day it won't work. That being said I was on BC for over a month and got pregnant. It's my understanding that whenever you miss even one dose you have to start all over again and the meds have to build back up in your system. I maybe wrong but I would talk to your doctor, even if nothing happened in the past.

Joy~ I don't mind seeing my doctor at all, I will wait until I am late.  I just thought that if it worked for a year that it would continue to work, I mean I know it isn't 100% and I know there is that 1% chance but how likely is that really, is all I was thinking.  I will wait 3 more days if there is no period and then I will text and see my doctor no matter the outcome.

Baby~ That was last month and I have done that before and never had a problem.  On the pill I have been early before but in over a year I have never been late and I have had three months in a row in the past that my pill was all out of wake.  For me once I am on the pill consistantly for like a week everything gets back to normal.  This month I haven't missed a pill nor taken it at a different time.  And the previous month I only missed like 3 pills at the very begining so that wouldn't have really screwed me up, I've done that before and hasn't in the past. I don't know if we had sex around ovulation time but I think probably since we had sex almost everyday all month...

So I may be getting you confused with someone else, but I thought you said in a previous post that you missed a full month worth of pills and then started taking your next pack and missed some of those too...AND...that you had sex around your ovulation time?  So if that is the case then yes you can be pregnant....OR......your cycle can be extremely messed up right now.

If you look at your Birth Control you'll notice a disclosure that states it is NOT 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. Every single woman I've known whose taken BC has become pregnant while on it.

If you're 3 days before your period is due, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you're 3 days late, then go see your doctor. You keep posting these questions but you're not willing to see your doctor. He's the only one that can prescribe something or find out if you're truly pregnant.
