Miscarriage, some questings, help!

My husband I and I have been trying to conceive for over 2 years. I have 2 kids from a previous relationship, no miscarriages in the past. I have had testing, found out my thyroid was functioning too much and I was ovulating and I had a hemi-thryoidectomy (1/2 of my thyroid removed) and I am on meds so it now functions properly. He has not had any testing done, as of yet, an appointment is made for him, but there is a month waiting list. We found out we were pregnant on the 5th of March, on the 7th I started spotting. I had my labs drawn on 03-10 and the level was 111. Since I was still spotting, they redrew them on the 12th, the number had went down to 108. I had an ultrasound that day, which showed nothing. (Which is normal since my HCG was so low) The nurse prac at the time told me that my cervix was empty, and it looked like it was a chemical pregnancy. She said that most likely, nothing would develop any further and I should watch my hcg levels to make sure they were dropping. After that day, I stopped spotting. On the 16th, my hcg level was back down to 110, I started to cramp, and passed tissue. It was a relitively large amount. Sorry for the TMI, but it was big enough to fit inside the palm of my hand, and one about 1/2 that size. This is my major concern. With a chemical pregnancy, would I still pass tissue, or did the nurse prac make an educated guess that could have been wrong? Does it sound more like chemical pregnancy where my body just thought it was pregnant or I was on something else was wrong? I hope so, that way I would know I am able to conceive and that it is not due his sperm count or motility?

Wow, I re-read my response and it came out sounding harsh but I didn't mean it to!!! I'm just frustrated with doctors/nurses who just throw words out there without really thinking about what they are saying.

Of course they could be wrong, especially if they didn't test the tissue. She probably just said chemical because that is what happens to many women. But it sounds to me that it might have been a blighted ovum.
