possible abnormal sperm pregnancy

My husband was tested for infertility and we discovered he had a very low count and 1/2 of his count were abnormal sperm.  Now I recently discovered that I am pregnant (in my 5th week) and I am concerned that there may be a possibility I might have a high risk of miscarriage and that there may be some concerns if I carry to term of birth defects, abnormalities, metal health issues etc.  What tests can be done to determine if there is a problem and how soon can they be taken?  What is the likelyhood of a healthy pregnancy (are there stats on this avaiable to me)?

Amniocentesis is one. There's a new test they're doing now that has less chance of miscarrying (amniocentesis carries of risk of m/c just by performing the test since they insert a needle into your abdominal and into the amniotic sac). I think they test cervical mucous with this new test. I'm not sure. You should ask your doctor.

You'll probably have a few ultrasounds throughout your pregnancy. While it is possible that abnormal sperm can reach the egg, it makes more sense that a stronger sperm would make it and take the pot of gold, if you know what I'm saying. Don't worry yourself until you know what's going on. Hopefully the only worrying you have to do is about swollen ankles and decorating the nursery! Congratulations!!!

do a google search on "in vitro diagnostics" or go somewhere like pregnancy.com they have info on the different tests and when they can be done.

also try googling for "pregnancy testing" , "fetal testing" etc.

No, I haven't heard anything.  I read on a site that abnormal sperm can empregnate you if there are fertile though so that is what worries me.

I honestly don't think you have to worry about the abnormal sperm. They usually won't reach the egg because they can't swim very well; so if you're pregnant, the egg was probably fertilized by a "good" sperm. Good luck to you and congratulations!
