any experience with hypnobabies?

I would really love to do a natural childbirth but I'm afraid I won't be able to handle the pain.  Has anyone used hypnobabies?  From what I've read it trains your brain to not feel as much pain during labor.  It has amazing reviews I was just wondering if any of you ladies have any experience good or bad with self hypnosis during labor.

kerrywainwright- thanks I agree I'm not willing to risk an epidural.

chantal21- thanks for the advice, I agree I don't want an epidural at all!!  I do have a high pain tolerance but it's really frustrating when people (mainly at work) actually look down on me for wanting a natural birth, they say there is drugs available why suffer.  At least hubby is 100% on board and so is my doctor I guess that's all that matters :).  thanks again.

joyrenee- It's nice to here from someone who had natural and epidural.  I really want to do a water birth also but my doctor refused :(.  He said I could labor in the tub but once pushing started I would need to be in bed because of the risk to me and baby (I have hypertension, chronic not pre-eclampsia).  I plan on laboring as much as possible in the water hopefully that will help.  It's just stressful to worry about, I know I have a long way still but that just gives me more time to worry I mean prepare :).

I had two epidural births and my third baby I decided to go natural. I wish I had gone natural with my older two girls! It is such an experience, not to mention safer for you and for baby.

Talk with other moms who've had natural birth, surround yourself with people (including a doctor or midwife) that agrees with your approach to birth. You CAN do it. The pain won't kill you. It does get intense but with certain exercises and techniques you can make it a beautiful, natural birth. I highly recommend water birth. I haven't gotten to experience that yet but I would LOVE a water birth.

Never heard of hypnobabies, but I delivered both of my boys all natural. I didn't have the option of an epidural because I was at a birthing center, plus I am terrified of that kind of needle, so I probably wouldn't be able to do it. I just tried to find different positions that would help ease the pain. Hanging onto my hubby crouched over was my best option toward the end of labor.
Personally, I don't have major pain until my water is broken and I am 8cm. So I only endure a couple of hours of hard, painful labor. Everyone is different when it comes to pain, and personally, my tolerance is not high and I am surprised I could go all natural. My Mother had 4 children and delivered naturally as well. I think if you have a good support system around you, and this is really what you want to do, you can do it! Support is key!! But always know they call it labor for a reason, and it is painful! But once that baby is in your arms, all that pain stops. =)

Don't no bout the hypnosis but know all my family gave had natural births with just gas and air. They all said you just go into a trance and handle it.. It just happens and you cope... If the worst happens and you can't handle it there is always something they can do to help.. In 8 weeks but already know it's natural for me all the way. Don't like epidurals and stuff have know someone that had one n now drags her let as feeling never came back.. Know risks are small but why take the risk... Good luck
