Please some input; Fetal weight accuracy by u/s at term

I am 39w5d and I had an u/s last night so my doctor could check fetal weight because he might induce me this week.  The tech told me the baby measured to be 9 lbs, but that it could go 2 lbs in either direction?!!!!  I am freaked thinking he might be bigger than that...........my first son was term also and he was 7lb 4oz so I figured this baby would be about the same.  I am waiting to talk to my doc this morning to see what he wants to do and I am sooo anxious!

Does anyone have any input on how accurate you think this might be??  I thought it could go only one pound in either direction?  Thanks!!!

I agree with grandmatobe My youngest son was estimated at 6lbs 4ounces at the time of labor, 20 min later when I actually gave birth he was 9lbs 6ounces.

My sister just had the samething done with her, he baby was estimated at 8lbs 6ounces and she had a 10lbs 1.2 ounce baby the day after her due date when she was induced.

I dont think they are very acurate, they do measurements, but who is to say your baby isn't short or something. I always have short babies under 22 inches long, and they always estimated them to be about 6 to 7 pounds and they all came out over 9 pounds.

They told my daughter that her baby was 8 1/2 pounds, so they induced.  She ended up being 6 lb 13 oz.  They aren't accurate at all....IMHO.

My sister had an u/s at 38 weeks and they said that she was going to have an 8-9 pound baby. He ended up being born that week and weighed 5lbs. 12oz.! I think that the weight gets more and more inaccuate the bigger your baby gets. I think its just harder to get the measurements when the baby is all crammed up in there. LOL. Good Luck!

I am definitely NO expert, but they told my best friend her son was only looking like he was 7 lbs. (he was 10 days overdue at the time) He ended up being almost 10 pounds.. I think that they can be WAY off.. But I only have that 1 experience so what do I know? =)

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!
