what are the odds of a half brother and sister having a baby that will have birth defects?

It depends on if the siblings carry the same recessive traits because if they both have the same mother or father, they could each carry a recessive traite for a disease and having a child would likely cause the baby to be born with the disorder the parents are carriers for.

You'd have to have genetic counselling, and probably a CVS or Amnio to rule out any genetic problems.

you would have to have an u/s and tests done through out the pregnancy to keep an eye on the baby. but there are higher odds of the baby having birth defects if its parents are blood related than if they were not blood related.
