Well I have a manual medela and an electric ameda purely yours. My manual works better but that because the ameda loses suction after a couple months. I'll be getting an electric medela next month. I breastfeed and pump every once in awhile. It did hurt at first. They sell different sized flanges(the part that goes over your nipple) and that could be part of it. But it takes a bit to get use to just like breastfeeding. But no a good electric pump isn't a waste of money if you plan to pump a lot. But I wouldn't skimp on a pump medela is expensive but they're the best. But make sure you call your insurance first because they should cover a pump

I used a medela double electric and used it for 8 months and it had great suction the whole time. Best advice I ever got was from a lactation consultant because i had a low suppy was that was once your milk stops squirting, hit the let down button to start the fast sucking motion so that it helps thw supply and demand
