They pull their medical records and do drug testing my aunt did it cause she had soo much extra breast milk! You don't have to be a child's mother to breast feed them. It's not gross at all I think it's great since breast feeding is the best method and unfortunately some women can't.
We all know how many benefits breastmilk offers that can't be replicated in commercially produced formula... it's the best thing for babies, especially preemies. If moms who have too much for their babies are willing to donate to those who don't have enough, lives can be saved. We drink milk from cows we've never met, and trust that it is rigorously regulated and tested to make sure it is safe. Donor moms go through an even more strictly regulated testing regimen to make sure their milk is not contaminated - and to be honest, I cannot believe any mom who would offer such a donation would ever knowingly contaminate her supply with illicit substances. Like I said, I'd nurse a friend's baby, and I would happily allow a willing friend to nurse mine - even if I knew she indulged in a drink now and then. Breastmilk is best, and it doesn't have to come from me to be healthy for my baby. It's better than formula that comes from a big dusty factory and gets recalled every couple of months.
Would you buy COWS milk and eat it with cereal?? That was not a good scenario.
I would never buy breast milk. Especially when they make formula now. I dont know how to explain. Its the fact another human is providing milk for my child . Ask yourself the question would you receive another womans breast milk nd eat it with cereal in the morning? If ur answer is no than im sure ur not going to give it to ur baby. But if ur answer is still yes than more power to u......
I think its great..my biggest concern would be disease n drug testing
Human Milk for Human Babies and Eats on Feets are very well recognized donor organizations for moms to give breast milk to babies who need it. I think it's a wonderful thing that more people are accepting it as a good idea. I would nurse a friend's baby in a heartbeat and will strongly consider donating when my next baby arrives if I have extra supply like I did with my son.
I donated my extra saved and frozen milk to the milk bank for all the premmy babies in the nicu when I found out my daughter had a severe protein allergie! But it was to babies in need and not for sale!
I wonder if it's all the same like if you wanted to breastfeed then stopped and still wanted to continue but used someone else, would the baby know the difference!?!
Oh. Well see that's my problem. Not knowing what the woman is putting into her body. But Idk. Breast milk is important. But hmmm idk if I trust the whole thing. I'd have to do mega research.
I never thought of buying it but when my son was in the nicu I had signed a consent saying it was ok to give him donor milk even though i thought it was weird because the nurses didn't want to formula feed him if I was gonna breastfeed but I had started to produce enough milk at the same time they were about to give him it so he never got donor milk
I donate to moms in need it kind of just depends how you go about it and where you go through to get the milk.
The only reason I wouldn't is because I don't know how that woman treats her body or what she puts in it. Do they drug test? And if so how often? That's what would worry me.
Its pretty ancient. Wet nurses have been around way before the invention of formula. When a women couldn't or simply didnt want to breastfeed a lactating women would be hired to do the job. Royals in England had then, slave owners in the south had then, and plenty more. I think it is a bit weird that we are the only mammals that drink the milk of another species and then think it weird to drink the milk of our own.
