stitches after delivery

I had my baby 4 weeks ago and my stitches still haven't dissolved even though I thought they were supposed to after 2 weeks. Well as of last night they have gotten really painful where it hurts to walk since underwear rubs them. I took a peek down there though and it seems like the skin is bright pink and swollen where they are. DH (having had many stitches in his life but never in a vagina obviously) says they are getting to tight and to cut them out. I'm waiting on my doctors office to call back but that could take all day. Anyone have this happen?

I had DH just cut them out. They weren't even dissolving at all! Since taking them out I feel SO much better.

Yeah me too...I had my baby 4 weeks ago and I can feel the stitches down there, as well I thought they were supposed to come out after 2 weeks. I am not in pain however bu now I am worried that something is wrong and I am not healing properly. I am worried to go to my 6 week checkup.

I cant comment on vaginal stitching but as a I split both my ear lobes open and got stitches that were suppose to dissolve.. They never did and after several weeks, I had to get them cut out.  Hopefully you hear from your doctor soon

I agree with your DH on this. My stitches first started coming out about 2wks post-partum (dissolving and parts falling out) but there was one that was stubborn and I had to go in and get cut about a month after delivery...it was causing the skin to pucker and burn because as the cut heals it fills with healing tissue and pushes outwards on the stitches...

i would wait until the doctor's office calls but if they say to cut them at home a properly sanitized new pair of scissors should be safe to use (ask but my doctor said that if i had stitches again and they started doing this, assuming the cut has healed sufficiently you can go buy a brand new pair of manicure scissors, sterilize them in boiling water or alcohol, and snip the stitches that are pulling at home).
