castor oil question... not looking for a big debate! lol

Hi ladies,

I'm 37w 4d, and at 35 weeks I was in the hospital with back labor contractions, only to make very little progress and to be sent home. the doctor didn't want to give me the injection that stops contractions or progress because my son has been measuring ahead, is rather large and his vitals were monitored and were "perfect", now I'm experiencing the back pains again and it stinks, needless to say.

I know its all a part of being pregnant and the baby will come when he is ready but I read up on castor oil and read that it wouldn't work if the baby wasn't ready/my body wasn't ready anyway... it would just clean me out and cause discomfort. I drink about 4 liters of water a day or more... if you include ice cubes, lol so I'm no very concerned about dehydration and when I was in the hospital the doc didn't even administer fluids via IV because I was chugging down the water anyways.

Anyone ever been in a similar situation like this? I am curious to see if it works and would help my body go into active labor and make these contractions progress.

No neg. feedback please, I've read tons and tons about pros and cons and am just curious if it has worked for anyone else at this point or if it is worth a try.

Thank you all :)

I wouldn't - ever. You wouldn't rush baby to do anything else in life, why now? We all feel miserable, we all are sick of being pregnant but like you said. It's part of it. If you were actually ready anyways baby would already be here.

I have taken it before, my daughter is now 4yrs old i was 38wks with her .. i wasnt dialating any and i worked 8hour days on my feet i was feeling miserable and very exhausted .. For it to work you would have to drink the hole bottle now it does tase horrible and it will not flush u out , yes its ment for that but no. it took 4hrs i went into labor and my contractions were 1 apart by the time i went into the hospital i was 4cm.. i had her vaginaly with no problems or concerns of taking the castro oil. i as well want no negative feedback.

Jacque, no neg feedback from me!! To each their own. I took some castor oil tonight, I haven't been sleeping well anyways with my back pains. I took it straight and chased it with gatorade and a piece of bread and butter to get the texture out of my mouth lol... I'm hoping the amount of gatorade I chugged doesn't counter act the oil..

I took it with baby #4. After being induced with  my 3 other babies and scheduled for my forth, I decided ( with midwifes approval) to try it the night before my induction. I took 3 tbls mixed in a chocolate milk shake ( couldn't even taste the oil) 5 hrs later contractions started and 2 hrs after that my healthy 8lb 15 oz baby was delivered. I was 41 wks, 4cm and 80% effaced when I took it. Good luck
