ultrasounds

So the very last ultrasound i got was at 24 weeks.

I had one at 8 weeks, but only because the Doc couldnt find the heartbeat.

Another at 12 weeks, i opted to do the down syndrome testing because i knew id get an u/s.

One at 19 weeks, i paid $105 for it at Baby in Me 3D/4D imaging because my Doc wouldnt tell me the gender until i was 21.5 weeks and i was impatient!

One at 22 weeks, because i switched to a new Doctor and he wanted to get measurments.

And my last one at 24 weeks at Baby in Me because at the 19 weeks one my baby was uncooperative and they couldnt get good pictures so i got to go back for free.

Im now at a new hospital with a new Doctor ((military clinic)) and he told me at my 28 week appt that they wont do an ultrasound unless i failed the glucose test or if im a high risk pregnancy. Im a little bummed especially when one of my friends is pregnant ((33 weeks)) and it seems she gets one like every 3 weeks and she posts it on facebook...im happy for her, but part of me is jealous! Im so impatient and would like to know how my baby is measuring. All they tell me is..."hes a big boy" or "youre measuring 2 weeks ahead"! My Doctor told me theres no need for an ultrasound since im so healthy and ive had no complications this pregnancy and im so thankful to hear that BUT is it so hard to squeeze in one last ultrasound lol?? Any ladies go thru this? Or is it because im being seen in a military clinic??

My husband is very good at keeping me patient and telling me...good things come to those who wait and it will all be worth it when you see our son...but id really just like one more...just to ease my mind lol. I actually dont mind the waiting cause usually im NEVER seen on time. Im just happy to not be at work lol.

I had one done at 7 weeks at a free clinic to confirm a heartbeat when I first found out I was pregnant, one at 13 weeks in the ER (they couldn't find the heartbeat with Doppler and needed to check viability) one at 20 weeks for measurements, another at 24 weeks to recheck her heart, and one last one done at 33 weeks because I was measuring to be 27 weeks. My clinic only does the one at 20 weeks unless medically needed beyond that. Ultrasound weight measurements can scare women more than necessary as well though. There are hundreds who get told they HAVE to have a c-section because the baby is 9-10 pounds and it really comes out to be 7 pounds.

I have gotten many ultrasounds one every week in first trimester and then I've had three or four since then. I am 31 weeks now and I have another ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow. However my OB did tell me that they only do it as medically necessary bc they don't truly know how many ultrasounds are safe. If my ultrasounds were not medically necessary than I wouldn't have them. This one tomorrow I have an hour and a half drive to downtown Chicago to see a specialist at the hospital for my ultrasound. It will be a pain in the @ss. Don't get me wrong I LOVE seeing my baby so often however it is very time consuming and the unknown safety. You are very lucky to not need an ultrasound so often :)

In Canada you only get the 12 week and 19 week ultrasound unless you have complications.....  Be patient your baby will be here soon enough

I also looked a lot farther ahead then i really was with Bella.

Remember, they (doc) measure your uterus, not how you "look" thats the big difference.

You arent supposed to get more then 2 ultrasounds.

ONe is done to confrim heartbeat

Second is done strictly for measurements, gender.

IF your uterus is measuring where it should be, then id say no need for any ultrasounds.... Its not like it doesnt have an effect on you/your baby. You never know. The less sonos/xrays the better. You feel it move? That should be enough to tell you everything is fine! Good luck!

Normally you have 1-2 ultrasounds. Some ladies only get 1 and thats the gender ultrasound. If there isnt any complications with your pregnancy than your dr most likely isnt going to give you another ultrasound. You can ask at your next appointment if theres any way they can give you measurments on the baby or atleast tell you how big he's gotten since your last visit.

Yeah i just want to see if they can measure him so i can atleast know a weight range lol. Everyones telling me im huge for how far along i am and that i dont look like ill make it to february, but i honestly dont think i look that big. I have military coverage now so im guessing if they dont need to do an ultrasound they wont because its not coming out of my pocket lol.

Some believe that u/s are dangerous for a baby in the womb.  technically they are only permitted to do one u/s at 20 weeks.  I got 5 u/s during my pregnancy. one at 11 weeks to confirm the pregnancy. the main one at 20 weeks. then one at 29 and 30 weeks that I paid for to see 3D. and then another one at 36 weeks cause my doctor didnt think my son was growing.  I know how you feel though, its reasurrance when u see them.  I hated not getting more then I did. i was always worried..  And also depending on what insurance you have, most insurances only cover one u/s.
