The best advice I can give you to prevent a miscarraige if you are ttc is for you and your significant other to get a pre pregnancy check up.  Make sure that neither of you have problems that might pose a risk for miscarriage. Other than that, like Ashelen said, 90% of miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalities and there is nothing that can be done about that.  The average woman will have 1 - 2 miscarriages in her reproductive lifetime.

more than 90% of miscarriages are caused by a chromosomal abnormality that occurs when the egg and sperm meet. usually the embryo would not develop normally, so the body essentially "rejects" the embryo by passing it. There is no way to avoid a miscarriage if there's something wrong with the embryo, however there are things you can do to reduce your chances of miscarriage. Do not smoke, do drugs, or drink too much caffeine (doctors recommend less than 350mg of caffeine...which is a lot!). You can have sex, but be gentle and do not attempt "deep penetration" as this can affect the cervix, and a cervix that is opened prematurely can cause a spontaneous miscarriage. Obviously things like serious falls, accidents, or blows to the belly can cause miscarriages, and you can only do so much to avoid those...just be safe, always wear your seatbelt (low, just above your thighs) to protect your body, and turn off airbags as you start to progress through your pregnancy.

if a miscarriage is going to occur, there's generally nothing they can do to stop it, and most of the times the cause is unknown, and it is almost NEVER something that the mother did. and unfortunately there's no way of knowing if a woman will miscarry until something occurs such as bleeding, heavy cramping, or the baby is not developing normally through the first trimester.
