I wouldnt say there's a down side..... either way
Is hard work... my 1son wouldn't bf...after 3 days of
Struggling we switched to bottle. My 2nd took
To bf great.... but as there was only 17 months
Between them.... he fed every 1 ½ hours in the day
But went 4-5 hours at night. Hubby couldn't do
A feed... I was so very tired... I got no time to
Spend with the eldest. But if its your 1st ...you will
Have more time... I am due again in 17
Days and will attempt bf again with this one...just
Take each day as it comes...
I loved breastfeeding!! I didn't really find a downside to it.
First I should say I'm breastfeeding. But I see a downside. The baby eats a lot at first, and you're the only one who can feed her, so some moms complain of feeling like feeding machines who can't get any sleep. You can't just leave the baby with grandma with some formula and bottles, you have to plan things out more or just be a little less free to go. I also think it's not bad to let other people bond in that way with her too. There's nothing like feeding and rocking a baby to sleep, and I'd like her dad and grandparents to be able to have that experience too. I have to pump and switch her to breastmilk in bottles when she's less than 2 months anyways, so I just figure if I can get through the first couple of months things can lighten up a bit. I'll breastfeed as much as I can when I'm at home, but doing it that way just feels a little more flexible to me. But either way, I've looked at it from both sides and decided it's what's best for the baby overall so that's our plan. :)
Lol your baby might kick the cup of water your drinking while feeding and s/he'll get a nasty suprize lol!
That's correct Nicole, they feed more often than formula babies, because formula has fillers in them that keep baby fuller for longer, and they're usually getting a little more with formula.
They say babies feed more often when breast feeding and wake up a little more often. Not enough to notice a big difference tho. That's the only downside I have heard about or read about.
The upside is its better for baby, they are less likely to get colic, be obese later on and a study showed a higher iq possibility. And you bond :)
I agree, your boobs might get a little sore and depending on your baby and his/her latch on ability, it might be difficult at first, but the benefits out weight the negatives, and it's an amazing bonding experience!
Other than the fact that your nipples can get raw or you can get an infection (rare). There is no downside. Its actually wonderful for you and the baby...and you get used to feeding around other people and in public. I had it down with my first so well...no one ever saw boob!!
