Worried-no heartbeat

I had my first ob appointment yesterday.  It was so long. I was really upset because she couldn't find a heartbeat, she said its too early but I am 10w2d. Ive been really worried cause I know other people who heard the heartbeat at 5 weeks so I am freaking out. This is my first baby so everything worries me :( idk what to think

Yes the first appointment I had where she even tried the doppler was 14 weeks, and even then it took her several minutes to find it, and she saw it on her little screen but I didn't. It's barely audible at that time except via ultrasound, the baby's just too little. Until then I had vaginal ultrasounds so we could both see and hear the baby.  I wouldn't worry, dopplers just aren't that sensitive.

My doctor couldn't find one with a Doppler until I was 14 weeks, and even then, it took her almost 20 minutes to do so. I wouldn't worry...many doctors do not order an ultrasound unless they are worried about something. With my three year old, I only had one at 17 weeks even though I had gestational diabetes. It seems like forever to wait, but take comfort in the fact that your doctor is happy and everything looks normal.

First of all, when they detect heartbeats at 5-6 weeks, that is through ultrasound, which is far more sensitive than doppler. For doppler, sometimes they can find it near 9 weeks but sometimes, they can't find it even in to the second trimester depending on baby's position, maternal bloodflow, etc. With my first, they found the heartbeat at 9 weeks but not at 14 weeks. With this one, at around 11 weeks, they couldn't find it. Then, at 15 weeks, my doctor had a terrible time finding it because it turns out I have an anterior placenta (my husband said it was 10 minutes). I truly believe if it had been his resident or if he had been less determined, they would not have found it at that appointment. Even at my last appointment (23 weeks), it was hard to distinguish the baby's heartbeat from my bloodflow but it didn't take as long.

All that being said, both times they couldn't find the heartbeat, I was offered an ultrasound appointment within a few days. I know I have pretty decent health coverage (in US), but don't see why you can't call your doctor's office and ask for one, or maybe even just add in another check in a few weeks. I know it's very stressful when they pull out that little gizmo and it fails. Good luck!

It was a Doppler. What makes me upset is that she didn't even try to hard.
She didn't even do the ultrasound or anything. How I am supposed to know my baby is growing ok. Next time I see her is march 5th

My doctor tried to find the heartbeat with the doppler when I was 14 weeks...she couldnt. She had told me not to worry because sometimes you cant pick the heartbeat up with the doppler that early. She sent me for an ultrasound anyway and sure enough there was a heartbeat!!

Was it a vaginal ultrasound, or a doppler (the little wand thing they place on your belly that doesn't give an image, they just use to find the heartbeat)?

A heartbeat usually starts to form around 6 weeks although it is possible for it to take a few extra weeks.. Is there a chance you're wrong on your dates?? if you are, that could be why there's no h/b yet.. I would wait a week and go for a repeat scan
