i thank you all very much ..my daughter is with her father for the weekend so i am just going to wait til monday to speak with my doc i am nervous but dont feel it warrants and emergency call.i feel like if there isnt much they can do then there will be just as much today as monday...i will keep u all posted when i do speak with them though and let u know this way incase anyone else ever encounters this...
I don't think it is highly contagious...I had it in high school and swapped spit with my boyfriend (now hubby), shared drinks with my best friend, and came in close contact with my mom and stepfather on a daily basis and none of them got it and no one else at school got it...I know you are nervous about what it could mean for your baby but try to relax, and I personally don't think this is an ermergency...like FEOT said, just be cautious around your daughter if/when she coughs, sneezes, etc.
both your ob and ped should have an after hours/ weekend # to call. i would call that # and ask for someone to speak w/ you about what you should do.
Lola, below is part of what I found online about fifths disease while prengnant. I dont know how far along you are, but I would still call your doc again just to make sure.
What could happen to my baby if I do get fifth disease while I'm pregnant?
If you're not immune and you contract the virus during pregnancy, your baby will most likely be fine. There's about a 1 in 3 chance that parvovirus will be passed through the placenta to a baby, but even among these babies, the vast majority do well and have no problems or signs of infection.
Unfortunately, though, in a relatively small percentage of cases, parvovirus infection during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, severe fetal anemia (leading to a serious condition called "hydrops fetalis"), and sometimes inflammation of the heart muscle. About 11 percent of moms-to-be who become infected before 20 weeks will end up losing their babies, although the loss may not happen for several weeks to a few months after the initial infection. Babies whose mothers get infected after mid-pregnancy rarely have problems from the infection.
thats just it i am unaware how much if any contact she has had with the infected child or children.but like i said i have called the doctors but they were not there i plan to try again on monday.
The virus of fifth disease is spread mostly by droplets. This means that when an infected person coughs or sneezes, the virus can be spread. However, once the rash is present, the person is usually no longer infectious and need not be isolated.
Not sure if your daughter was anywhere near this child. Dont know much about it but i would try to be careful if your daughter sneezes or coughs. Then try to set up an appointment with your & your daughters Dr. ASAP.
You really need to call your doctor and make it a emergency call due to the severity it could do to your pregnancy... I dont want to scare you but it could harm your baby, to me is an emergancy. Please call and keep me posted on what they say to do.
