Awwww! I am so glad he is doing better and you got him to the doctor. I am a "better to be safe than sorry" kind of girl, so I think it's great that you took him to the doctor.
I would def watch the congestion though. Since babies have a hard time coughing that stuff up, it can be bad if it sits too long. With my youngest, she got congested when she was about the same age as yours. I remember it was the week of Christmas! She wasn't running any fever and was actually in good spirits. But she just had this really congested cough. I took her in and they basically sent me home with some medication to go in my breathing machine. The doc said I could wait and see if she got any worse or just didn't get any better within a couple of days, but I went ahead and started giving her breathing treatments right away and it really helped her. She was sick her first Christmas, but I was really glad I had that medicine. If the congestion stays in the chest too long, it can cause Bronchitis and/or Pnemonia.
Anyway, I am so glad all is well with your little man :)
Hi! I was gonna update and then i got sidetracked with work lol! So thank you for the reminder and thank you for asking (:
He is doing alot better! His temp was 97 this morning at his appt. The Doctor said his lungs sound good and that he may be congested for a couple weeks, but its normal cause his body is trying to get rid of all the flem caused by nasal drip. He said he most likely caught a cold from me and that if he runs a fever for more than 3 days then i should go straight to the ER. Got some baby tylenol and sent us on our way!
I hope he is feeling better and you got some answers :)
i called the hospital and talked to a nurse. I told her that he had a 101.2 temp and right now its 99.9 and she said to continue to monitor him and if it doesnt drop or it gets to 100.4 or higher than take him to the ER. But i got an appt for 8am with a new pediatrician.
She asked if anyone was sick that has been around him and i said yes, my niece was coughing and then i wasnt feeling well a couple days ago and i that i am stuffy and i think my son caught what i have which i think mightve been a cold cause he has a little bit of a runny nose.
I agree with the changing peds. That's ridiculous to say it's normal!
if the tylenol only dropped it to 101 after an hour i agree with GA there is something going on there.. and if almos 2:30 hours later it was still 99.9 i wouldnt have a doubt... at 8 weeks my lo developed a 102 fever the day after shots... i thought it was because of them but when i called doctor he said it was way to high for a baby that small, so idk what your doctor is talking about... i took her in and she was in the hospital for 3 days due to a stomach bug... she hadnt thrown up when i took her to the doc so i would have never guessed she started throwing up after she was admitted so it really could be anything and hes just not showing symptoms yet... i wouldnt hesitate and take him in and if your doctor still thinks its normal i would 1st take him to the er and 2nd pull out my insurance providers list and look for another ped... good luck hope he feels better soon!!
Also another thing is he could be teething already. My oldest got his first tooth at 4 months, so it is possible. When both my boys teethed they had loose stool and fever of 101-102. If it is him teething highlands teething tablets work great. I hope all goes well and your lil one is ok.
His temp dropped to 99.9, im getting ready to call the hospital to schedule an appt and talk to a nurse. My sister is going to check his temp every hour. i will most likely be leaving work early today. Thanks for the advice ladies (:
Anything over 101.4 in a child under 6 months should be addressed by a doctor. The last time my daughter had a fever she had NO other symptoms and ended up she had an ear infection. She was 5 months then. Tylenol takes about a half hour to forty five minutes to kick in. The fact that an hour later his temp was at 101 tells me that his temp was higher than that to start with. If it were MY child I would go ahead and schedul an appt. Or at the very least speak with the nurse at the peds office and see what they recommend.
Yeah i thought it was kinda odd to hear that babies get fevers all the time...he was like "babies get sick, they get fevers, its normal. Give him some medicine and if his condition gets worse bring him into the ER." Im just so paranoid because at 3 weeks he caught the flu and we ended up spending 3 days in the hospital and people had to wear gowns and masks. My poor baby was poked and prodded and had a spinal tap ): i cried the whole 3 days! Then at 7 weeks he had a fever and was poked numerous times just to find out he had a cold! So any little change with him i get so worried. I told my sister to please text me and let me know if anything changes! Thank you Michele!
I don't agree w/ your ped that it is normal for a baby to get a fever. If a baby gets a fever, it is the same as any other child or adult getting a fever and indicates they are sick. A baby won't get a fever without any reason. He will probably need to be seen by his doctor. At least that has been my experience. I can't remember having a baby that young w/ a fever that didn't require some type of medication. But if you take him too early and he doesn't yet have other symptoms, they might not be able to get an accurate diagnosis just quite yet.
I would def keep an eye on his temp and any other symptoms that he might start. I would also tell your sister to keep in touch with you throughout the day and to let you know if the fever gets higher or he gets any more symptoms. If he does, I'd go ahead and take him today. If the fever continues, and it very well might, I'd plan on taking him tomorrow. With infants, it is very tricky but when mine are that small and running fever, they get a trip the the doctor.
Keep in mind that fevers tend to spike at night also. Good luck! I hate when my kids are sick. It really does break my heart :(
