how old does your bby need to be before flying?

I am wondering, how long should we wait til our new born is old enough to fly? I might be having my baby outside the US but we are moving to live there soon (hopefully before the birth). But if we don't move in time to have our baby in the US we will be wanting to travel soon afterwards to get settled. It might be a 7+ hour flight and also layovers. Does anyone know or have experience with flying with a small baby? If it could be dangerous or traumatic in some way to our baby for sure we will wait. But idk any info would be great! Thank you

No they can't. Baby needs their own passport. There is actually a case in the news at the moment about a British couple who live in UAE and they have just had a baby. They are waiting for their baby's passport to arrive but by law they must haveone by the time the baby is 2 months, but Britain has a major passport backlog right now. So they face a fine for the baby not having a passport. And they also need one so they can bring the baby back to Britain to visit family

I'm pretty sure baby can fly on mom's passport with some minimal paperwork/proof. My niece flew from Europe to US before she was two this way. Each country might be different though.

LucieMarie1991 is correct... If baby is born overseas it can take a while before you can get them back here. I have a friend who's baby was born overseas and you do need to get a passport (so one parent will have to come back to the US to do that) and in order to get the passport you will also need documentation that the baby is in fact a US citizen even though they were born over seas.

Don't forget for flying internationally your baby will need a passport which you won't be able to even apply for until baby is born as you will need a photograph, so it will probably be atleast 2-4 weeks before you get the passport back

Yeah I feel you! I'm living in Germany now with my husband(he's army), and I wanna fly home ASAP with baby so she can see family. If you're gonna do it pretty early, maybe bring a doctors note with you just in case! So they know your baby is okay to fly.

Just googled it. Actually, if you're baby is healthy with no risks, they can fly at a few days old! But I wouldn't recommend it. I'd wait at least a few weeks.

I'm pretty sure you can start flying with baby pretty early. Maybe a month or two?? I know my mom flew with my baby sister at 3 months and she was perfectly fine. Easier to fly with them when they sleep more lol.
