2nd Doc Appt. tomorrow!

I'm wondering what exactly will happen at the appointment. I'm 12 weeks. At the first appt. they did the cultures test (like a pap) and an ultrasound. I really want to see the baby again. Will I get to see him/her? Will they do any more tests?

My last appointment was an entire month ago!

There are also medical colleges that will give them for free to have students get practice...do you have any colleges in your area?? That might be something to look into....

Medicaid only covers one ultrasound (I know because I've been on it for two of three pregnancies). Ultrasounds cost around $500 for a diagnostic one.

Try to find a pregnancy clinic near you that has an ultrasound machine. They will do one for free.

I have medicaid.. regular pregnancy.. you think i should just ask nicely for one? If he says no, i think i'll seriously cry.

Well you're paying for the ultrasound. If money isn't a problem for you then just say you would like an ultrasound for peace of mind. I don't think you should lie just to get an ultrasound! Just be honest!

Doctors aren't sure if having a lot of ultrasounds has any effect on the baby. My daughters each had 3 ultrasounds and they're perfectly healthy children. Some women with very risky pregnancies usually get routine ultrasounds and nothing happens to their babies.

Well, depending on your doc, they might tell you too many can be harmful....I've had one doc that did that to me, yet I've had 5 with this pregnancy, and I'm 29 weeks. So, you could try to say that you are unsure of your exact LMP, and that may make them curious as to how far along you are. I wouldn't try to come up with any fake problems to get your doc concerned, cuz if they learn it was a fib, they might not believe you if something is wrong....the boy who cried wolf  :)   You could also just try asking for one, that might work, depending on your doc.

:( really?? Ok this sounds horrible... but what problem can I mention so that they will do an u/s? Or could I ask to know the EXACT due date. Any other suggestions to get them to do an u/s. I REALLY want one bad

You won't have another u/s until 16-20 weeks, unless you have problems. OR unless they want to get an exact due date, and how far along you are. Most docs like to do as few u/s as possible.

I heard the heartbeat at 7 weeks, believe it or not. It was really exciting - 150 :) Do you think they will do an ultrasound?

Do they do an ultrasound on each month visit?

You'll get to at least hear the heartbeat!!! Every appt. from now on will be pretty much the same except for a few special tests (such as glucose test in your 2nd trimester). You urinate in a cup, check your weight/blood pressure/heart and the doctor does an external exam to check fundul height and listen to heartbeat.

Your appointments will be once a month up until month 7. Then you'll be seen every other week during month 8. And your last month of pregnancy you'll be seen every week until delivery!
