how common are false Negative?

i took my first test when i was three days late.  it came back negative, but i still haven't started yet.  i have always had a normal period.  my husband and i have been trying to conceive since january 2009, for eleven months now.  we had tests done to make sure there wasn't any promblems.  my tests all came back regular and normal.  my husband has low sperm count.  my last period was on octber 11.  it was a little weird.  it was regular at first.  but when it stopped i then spotted a day later for four more days.    my husband and i have been sexually active through out the month.  i figured i ovulated the 22-27.  so we had sex three times in those days.  i have read that some women get false negatives, but how common is that?  is this a possibilty?  i was so dissapointed when it showed "not pregnant" but i still haven't started.  and i don't feel like i am about to start.  i don't know what to think/

I would say give yourself some more time, but in the mean time, take it easy. When in doubt, act as if you are. Dont take any medicine or do anything thats unhealthy for a growing baby. I only say this because my sister had numerous pregnancy test and blood test that said she wasnt pregnant. Also because she was told when she was young she couldnt or wouldnt have children, so i guess doc's didnt take her serious. But she got sick and when she went to the emergency room, they did an ultrasound and she was three months pregnant with my nephew.

AF= Aunt Flo aka your period, and BFP= Big Fat Positive (a clear positive result on a home pregnancy test). Some women's bodies produce antibodies that mask the HCG results on home pregnancy tests and sometimes even blood tests and cause false negatives, but it's fairly rare...most false negatives come from testing too early like heather said. wait a few days and test again. If you still haven't gotten your period, call your doctor and they can run some blood tests and/or an ultrasound to see why. :)

False negatives are quite common I think...especially when people test too early. I had the same thing this past cycle. I was 3 days late and got negatives...didn't really feel like AF was coming but I still got it. I would wait it out a few days and if it still doesn't come...test again. Some people can get BFP's really early while others don't.
