Pregnant, but ultrasound doesn't match my dates

How's this for weird? Came up positive for pregnancy right away today at dr's office. My OB did an ultrasound and we discovered that I appear to be more like 5 weeks along, which is consistent with my last bleeding episode if I count it as a period, not 13 as I originally thought. I'm waiting on quantitative blood test results -- he wanted to check HcG levels to be sure things were developing normally but he thinks this is a new pregnancy and everything is fine, just early on.

I have no idea how to explain the last 3 months. Stress, maybe a miscarriage followed by immediately falling preggers again? This is gonna be the world's longest first trimester.

Yeah they took a bunch of blood yesterday to check up on that. I have rolling veins so getting it out of me was a job! Hopefully will hear back today or tomorrow.

My miscarriage this past year I didn't have clots or anything. It was identical to a period, just lasted a little longer. Is your doctor doing blood testing to check your hCG levels?

Just confused by it all, and waiting on blood work. Hopefully everything's normal. We weren't TTC but after we thought I was already pregnant we weren't being super-careful all of the time. Probably how this new one, if it's new and developing right, would have happened.

Anybody have experience with an early miscarriage that didn't involve passing clots/tissue? I had pretty bad lower ab cramping and a nasty migraine at what I thought was 8 weeks. I had also had one positive test followed by a series of negatives in the weeks before but didn't bleed heavily so had assumed it wasn't a miscarriage and I was still pregnant.
