It doesn't kill your baby, but baby could have complications. Your body is a machine, so if you lay on your back and feel that you can't breath then your mind will tell you to move, or if you are already asleep it will wake you up.  The artery that runs down your spine provides oxygen and nutrients to your baby, so if you can't breath baby can't breath...

I lay on my back all the time and I haven't "killed my baby." My doctor said lay anyway you feel. If its uncomfortable for the baby, the baby will let you know.

Not really. The main artery that pumps oxygen to your baby is near your spine and when you lay on your back baby puts weight on it and it can cut off their oxygen and possibly kill them. If you need to be on your back, prop yourself up. Hang in there.
