do u have to lose the mucus plug before any kind of labour will start?

38 weeks and fed up.. nipple stimulation and walking and bouncing on ball to try help bring on labour...  
But i just thought.. i havnt lost my mucus plug so will i not go in to any kind labour until that comes out, ????

I didnt lose my mucus plug with my first child, i got contractions and that was it. I had the doctor break my water once i was at the hospital to help speed things up, but everyone is different.

I hadn't lost anything at all when I went in with my first, everything was still intact when I was contracting every few minutes

I haven't lost my mucus plug completely,or maybe not at all-I have seen only a tiny but of the characteristics but nothing since then. but I'm currently having regular contractions with an internal of about 7mins.
38 weeks pregnant
