After birth visitors

is it undesirable to ask for no visitors for a few days after giving birth and how did you let your family know that's what you wanted without being rude???

Yes, you never know how you'll feel after you have the baby. We didn't have anyone come to the hospital.  Got home and my sister did stop by to see the baby. most welcome as my sister is important to me and I wanted her to meet the baby.  Then we had no one for a couple of days and my cousin called out of the blue. She came over and oh my gosh, it was like manna from heaven, she held my new baby while I napped for an hour or so.  It was WONDERFUL!  She even threw a load of laundry in for me and folded what was in the dryer.

So, I don't think you need anyone over that creates a stress feeling for you----  or a parade of people.  but if you have a few special some one's that would be a comfort for you or a help, then maybe you'll want them.  Try to be a little flexible because you don't know how you'll feel until you are in the situation.  But I suspect this is coming up  because you are afraid they are going to pounce on you and the baby too quickly so you have to head them off at the pass.  it's absolutely reasonable and fine to set boundaries and have visitors on YOUR terms.  I'm also a fan of locking my door and only opening it if I feel like it.  :>)  good luck hon

This is exactly how I feel! I only want our parents at the hospital and I will tell the nurses to keep them out for atleast 40 minutes after baby is born. And I don't want people coming to our house for a while either. I told my grandmother this and she didn't think I would follow through so I jokingly said no one is aloud in the house unless they bring us a cooked meal.

Definitely reasonable to wait until you're ready... I thought I wanted visitors until I realized how exhausted I was from labor and taking care of the new baby. I was falling asleep unknowingly sitting up!! So I had to break the news to everybody and it was definitely the best choice I made (: good luck

I just told people when they asked what hospital we were delivering in. We also didn't announce she was born right away (on Facebook). I think it's very reasonable to want a few days. I would just tell people you want a few days to recover and get to know baby before people come to visit. If they get offended then that's their problem.

I'm due today... as soon as the baby is here I want at least a week.. all family know that... they weren't ecstatic about it... but it's my choice. Just remind them that they will get to meet the baby!!

Thanks Smallbby I'm not due for a few months and I've mentioned to a few family members we don't wish for visitors until we are ready and they didn't react so well so I thought I was doing something wrong in a way but I will be sticking to my word and congratulations and good luck!!

i don't think so and i think you are very strong if you really follow through with this. i know for me I'm in the hospital having my baby now wishing people will leave but i put on a smile and hold my tongue... and i kind of regret it. but staying positive. a positive petunia is better than a negative Nancy.
