I packed baby lullaby music and a small CD player, a notebook for writing down people's gifts and tape for taping the cards onto the notebook page (dh is good at separating cards from gifts lol), a robe, slippers, adult Depends (the nasty sanitary napkins and disposable underpants they stick on you at the hospital have to be seen to be believed), deoderant, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, hair dryer and a small mirror, a few snacks and drinks, and an outfit for the baby to go home in. It was about all I needed, didn't even need my purse. (But I did need my makeup kit from it, all those photos! Good thing I had my lipstick and blush or I would have looked like death warmed over after 27 hours of labor and a C-section). Oh, and my reading glasses. :)
I didn't pack an outfit for me to go home in because I wore home what I arrived in, a nice loose dress and shoes that fit my swollen feet. :) A nail clipper and pair of scissors (for opening presents) would also be handy.
When I had my son I had no idea what to expect as far as blood after the baby adult depends is a good idea if you're not crazy about that I would buy at least 10 pairs of granny panties 1-2 sizes to big that you'll just toss when you take them off cause they're going to get bloody (sorry so graphic). Take mittens for the little one some babies (like my son) are born with finger nails long enough to scratch their little faces and you can't cut them. Buy one premie outfit take a premie and a newborn outfit with you my son was born 6 lb 14 oz but still hd to wear premie clothes for the first month cause he was built so funny. Take a big comfy nightgown you don't want to be stuck in that hospital gown
