BreastFeeding

So im a 2nd time mom but this will be my first time breastfeeding. Im nervous to say the least but i wanna give it a shot. I heard its painful and gives you a wierd feeling, is this true? Also i only get 4 wks maternity leave so how can i breastfeed when i go back to work? I work night shift btw. Or feeding in public did you feel uncomfortable ive seen the aprons and covers but they look very suffocating so not sure about those. Basically i just wanna know as much as i can on the topic from moms that did it. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

This is gonna be long. I bf for a yr 6 mths exclusivly and pumped when I returned to my 40+hr job after 12 week leave. I only bf in public if I had a cover and a quiet corner & bubba wasnt squirmy (lo can and will rip most covers off) sad to say but im one that has fed my son in the bathroom cuz I didnt feel comfortable with my boobs out and about or went to the car (backseat windows tinted n always kept pillows in there) whenever family or friends were over n lo got hungry id just excuse myself to a bedroom feed and be done 10-15 mins no big deal. I pumped in the locker room at work every break (I got good using my manual pump it worked the best for me over an electric one I tried, eating lunch and playing on my phone all at once) I had ALOT of soreness pain bleeding nipples and mastitis 3xs but I cant even express how glad I am that I stuck with it! I will go thru all that crap again if I have to I will bf my babies it definitely does get easier as u and baby learn more and get used to it. Read up on it watch videos and find a lactation consultant they can help alot. And once u introduce the bottle dont go back to exclusive bfing for any length of time keep giving the bottle couple times a day even if u dont need to (I messed up and did that and when I went back to work my son refused anything but mom for a long time) i was afraid itd be awkward at first but it felt so right to be so close to my son as soon as I started feeding him the weird part was the nurses and everyone looking in and seeing how he was latched (btw LATCH IS EVERYTHING) n doin good. Just remember its a learning process for both of u and be patient and know it will get easier and easier btw I work 2nd shift and I don't think that really affected anything. Hope this helps n sorry its long but I luv seeing ladies wanting to give it a try

I worked nights after my son was born, it's not as bad as working days is honestly because (most) babies sleep more at night than in the day and don't need to nurse as often, so you won't need to pump as often on a night shift as you would on a day shift. I nursed my son for two years and it was a wonderful gift for him and for me. It can hurt at first as your nipples get used to the suction and the work of it but you just have to push through it. Talk to a lactation consultant and get help from nurses and other breastfeeding moms to make sure you're getting a good latch so baby can eat effectively and the pain will go awaymuch faster. And yes letdown is a "weird feeling" - you get this tingly sensation all through your body as your milk rushes down - usually it happens when baby latches but sometimes just when baby cries or you think about baby and your shirt gets soaked (cotton or wool nursing pads help a ton but yes it will happen). I miss the feeling of letdown now but it took a while to get used to it.
At first I used a blanket as a cover but once I got the hang of it a couple months in I didn't use a cover and nursed in public all the time. Proper layering and wearing nursing tanks and tops means you show off a lot less skin than a bikini for sure... it's easy to be discreet without drowning in blankets or ponchos.
It takes determination especially when you're working but it's worth it. Good luck!!

Good for you! Breastfeeding cab be tough but its also amazing. As long as you have a good latch The pain is temporary, only for the first week or two until your nipples get used to it. You'll have to pump after going back to work. Make sure you have a good support network with a lactation consultant or mom group.

Hey, I'm going to be a second time mum this year 2, I breastfed my son till he was 8 weeks old because I felt awkward in public and over Christmas doing it in front of my family, this time I plan to do it for at least the first few months as I've seen lots of great Tops slings and covers I'm going to invest in! I'm unsure on going back to work because here in the UK for the company I work for I get A year for maternity. It doesn't hurt at all as long as you latch them on correctly try a breastfeeding group for help and tips on that as I found it really useful. It does feel odd at first but you get used to it quickly, before I had him I was really against doing it but I would now recommend it to anyone.
