please help

I am pregnant with my first child and I want to have a natural delivery without medication but I am worried about the pain. I have heard many benefits to getting an epidural and many benefits to not getting it. What are some of your experiences?

ah yes thats excellent advice, you have to breathe through the contractions, I tend to want to hold my breath and am always reminded to breathe :)

I've had 10 babies all natural and with no pain relief, if you really want to do it you can, its everyones own personal choice on how they want their labour to be, if you want natural, then I would strongly sugest to stay away from the bed, if they want to monitor you get them to use a doppler, and keep active and upright, using hot water can also help with the pain, ie a shower or bath/birthing pool, my last baby I had a waterbirth which was amazing, your birth partner should also be on the same page as you, its no good if you want a natural birth, and every 5 min someone is asking you if you want pain relief, it would be good if you could go to some natural/active birthing classes or do alot of reading, to give you ideas on birthing positions, labour positions etc

oh my, mandamouse 21, that is horrible, you poor thing. Obviously this is a very rare event, otherwise I'm sure the epidural would be banned.
Did they save your uterus etc?

A new study out that epidurals can cause autism. Women have been having babies for thousands of years without drugs. My oldest daughter had an epidural w/her son 16 months ago. & just had a beautiful baby girl this morning with NO drugs! Yes it hurts, but it makes for healthier babies. And trust me as soon as baby is born all the pain is gone.

When I was delivering my first son I went 13 hours without any pain meds. Finally doctor said I had to get epideral, bc I had tthe epideral it relaxed me so much I ripped on the inside and out when pushing him out, was in a coma and I died from loosing so much blood. The doctor didn't think I was going to make it. I now don't get epiderrals.

Wow really? maybe the best way to do it is lick one of the people who will be in the room with you. This will be "hubby" . talk to them about the labour and what you want them to do during the labour. Where you want them and what you want them to do. It is a very personal experience and you need to feel comfortable in the room and with the people in it.

thanks i am just so nervous about having her there. I am having her and my dad's sister in the room with me because my fiance says that he doesnt not want to be in the room. and to be honest I don't want him there. He gets so weak when he sees blood. he has passed out many times just from seeing me get blood drawn at the doctors office. I know that he will be no help and more of a hinderance to me. I am happy to let him stay in the waiting room. lol

i always said i don't want an epidural till i went in labor . but I know a lot of woman that did it without it. It is easier if you know how to brith right , this will help you true contractions. So if you want to go without meds I would strongly suggest birthing classes . they will show you different pose and breathing to minimize pain

To be honest, it was such a relief! she was so helpful and after a while i was focusing more on my hubby. I was relieved she was there she kept me focused and calm. The bathroom stuff was a little embarrassing i have to admit, but it rolled off her shoulder like nothing. She was such a good support in a time like that.

Thanks so much. I was concerned about the pain because on a normal basis i do not have a high tolerance for pain. Can I ask how you dealt with your mother in law being there? My mother in law is most likely going to be in the room as well. I don't know if i will be able to deal with her being there.

I had the epidural. I was like you i wanted it to be a natural birth. It was fine till labour started. I lasted a few hours then the pain was taking my breath away and it hurt so much. I got the epidural and it made it so i could rest between contractions. I felt so much more comfortable. I was on the lowest dose he had ever given anybody. I couldn't pee on my own. My mother in law and my hubby had to hold me up lol. They were worried about the labour and i was more worried about my mother in law seeing my bare ***!! Lmao. Everything worked out great!! i highly recommend the epidural.
