I havent spoken to her since that day because there was a death in her DH's family and I know they are really taking it hard but Im going over there later tonight to talk to her.
They didnt do a sono at all. Which is why I was baffled at why they would make her wait 2 weeks to intervene not knowing for sure how far along she is.
I dont know how severe the cramping is but obviously not enough for them to do anything. I will NEVER go to a PP again in my life seeing how they have treated her, Id rather take my chances elsewhere. Thank you all and I will definitly keep you all posted on what is the outcome.
I agree that PP is NOT the place she needs to go. Like Joy, I, too, will keep my opinion of PP out of this but will suffice it to say I wouldn't send my worst enemy there. Your SIL needs to see a GOOD OBGYN or go to the ER.
Definitely get a second opinion!!!! It is so dangerous they should be taking extra care!!!
Oh... I won't even get into my personal opinion of PP. But I will say that they cannot rightfully or morally diagnose her as an ectopic pregnancy. She needs to find a regular doctor or clinic that will perform a sonogram to ease her mind.
Waiting two weeks is very risky if they suspect a tubal pregnancy. And if she doesn't have periods and doesn't know how far along she is then she could be much further along than she may even believe.
How did they check on the position of the IUD if not with a sonogram? I have never had one so I don't know how they do all of that.
It doesnt sound right to me? When my Dr. suspected a tubal pregnancy, he had me come in every 3-4 days until he was sure it wasnt because he wanted to make sure if it was it didnt rupture. I would take her to someone else.
She should go to an ER so they can examine her properly. Then they can give her a sonogram and find out for sure if it's even in her tubes.
She had a positive pregnancy test so she has to be ATLEAST 4 or 5 weeks to get a + on a regular urine test. Thats why I said why didnt they do a sono just in case. Shes had the IUD for 4 years in october. And I think after about a year she stopped having a period which Ive heard is normal (my sister also has the IUD and doesnt have a period) Theres no way to be sure how far along she is. Im concerned about why didnt they do one to get a better idea of whats going on. Like I said if it is really an ectopic or is it a viable pregnancy. What if her tube ruptures in the next two weeks because they didnt do a sono to see how far along she could be. And how can they tell her it's in the tubes if they didnt do a sono? What signs are there of an ectopic pregnancy that they can go by to dtermine without a sono?
An IUD should not prevent a period, unless it is progesterone laced, (in which case I don't know but it might.) She should not go to Planned Parenthood, but to an ob/gyn, to get properly diagnosed. I'd check everything, a) is she really pregnant, b) what makes them think it is ectopic, c) can she get an ultrasound. They aren't in trouble for not doing an ultrasound if they think she is really early in her pregnancy -- tubes don't rupture the day an embryo implants. But I would wonder why they told her it is ectopic.
With my ectopic pregnancy I went from normal cramping to "i want to die" cramping in just a few days. In less than a week I was in the hospital and about 4 days after that I had internal bleeding and needed to terminate the pregnancy. I was about 6-7 weeks pregnant at that time. Each person has their own experience, but I would highly suggest that she get another opinion and be monitored more by a doctor.
I don't think your SIL would be upset if you suggested that she get a second opinion right away. I am sure she has concerns of her own and having you to lean on and understand might make this easier for her. If at ANY time she has severe pain please make sure she is seen by a doctor RIGHT AWAY.
