My first passed her meconium before they had broken my water. It was a lot like niinii said. I wasn't allowed to hold her immediately but she was fine. No c-section required!

When the baby takes its breath of air it can aspirate the meconium causing it to possibly get a lung infection and have a hard time breathing.

Well with me they just had to cut the cord and clear her airways right away. So I wasn't allowed to hold my baby while we were still "connected."  They also had about 8 ppl coming in and out each diing something different.  Idk what each one did. But my baby didn't come out crying which I guess is what they wanted so that she wouldn't swallow the meconium.
