High, Doubling HCG, continues fetal growth but no heartbeat

I have frequented this site many times when I went through my first miscarriage five months ago and it was so helpful.  Now here I am facing another but I am completely baffled. Judging from my LMP today I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant. However, I went to the ER 3 days ago and baby was measuring ahead of schedule.  I went to get an ultrasound today and baby is measuring 7 week 1 day but no heartbeat so doc wants me to get a D &C. Here is my dilemma, first off, if my baby is dead then why is it still growing? Secondly, I have had 3 hcg's drawn.  On Thursday it was 15000, friday of that same week 26,000. And today it was 70000! So not only is my baby still growing but my hcg continues to double about every 30 hours! Isnt it too early to throw in the towel? I know I had my period on 10/10/10 so I am not as far along as they say plus I have tracked my ovulation since the last miscarriage. If anyone has a similar situation, please share your thoughts. Im sorry this was so long but I had to explain the situation so you would understand why I am so baffled

My story starts from my last period on Nov 2/2013. I found out I was pregnant after a missed miscarriage back in June 2013 where I ultimately had a D&C. I when for my first ultrasound this past week... would have been 10 weeks 5 days from my calculations.  I also had blood work preformed the day before my ultrasound to see where my hcg levels were at. After the ultrasound my doctor called to let me know the results of the ultrasound.  Ultrasound only showed a empty  gestational sac and fetal poll measuring 8 weeks 6 days. A few days later I got my hcg levels back and they were at 168000. My doctor is stumped.  She said it was not a blighted ovum due to the extream high numbers my hcg is showing. She did mention a molar pregnancy but she said I didn't show any of the signs to support that theory.  Weird to see a doctor so confused.  Going back to confirm hcg levels again this Wed. Anyone have and ideas about what's going on?

Okay everyone. I just got back from the ultrasound and the baby is there with a heart rate of 140 bpm! I still have a long way to go but thats one obstacle down.  Thank you all so much for all your encouraging words and advice.  I will be back on to update as the pregnancy progresses hopefully. And yeah, babies are little miracles.  The ultrasound tech couldnt believe it. SHe said she had never seen anything like that happen before and that she thought I was coming back for a follow up to make sure I had passed everything.  I cant begin to say say how grateful I am to God for this miracle! Take care ladies!

I praying for you!! I really hope you get to see a heartbeat! Maybe you are earlier than everyone thinks. I just hope this turns out good for you. Please let us know soon!! I would be like you, not giving up until I knew for sure, 100% what was going on.

Just an update for you gals,Went in for another hcg on Monday and its still rising. It was 168,000. So i dont know what to make of this situation.  Doc said its definitely not a molar or even a partial molar.  We go for another ultrasound tomorrow so hopefully therer will be a heartbeat.  Either way Im probably going to wait until my body decides to naturally miscarry if thats going to be the case. Keep the prayers coming please :)

Thanks so much for your comments you gals.  The doctor wants me to come in on Tuesday to discuss d&c, but Im not going to consent to anything until I know for sure that the pregnancy is in fact nonviable. On Tuesday I will go and get another bhcg drawn to see if levels have started to fall yet. I will keep you gals updated on what happens and thanks again for your input.

I agree with everyone else. Go with your gut instinct on this one. Your numbers are continuing to double right now and the baby is still growing, so I wouldn't go through with a D&C just yet. I had a m/c back in Sept of 09 and even though I did miscarry I found this site helpful. I would also check into misdiagnosed miscarriage .com. They have stories from other women who were in similar situations. I'm sorry you're going through this! Keep us updated!

You have to trust your instinct on this. If you don't think it's time to give up than don't.

I would not throw in the towel and get a d&c at this point.  it is possible to see the heart beat at that time but it sometimes is not detected until 8 weeks.  I am surprised they would recommend a d&c with your HCG rising.

Hold off, have another ultra sound...  I feel like most doctors in this case would wait another wait to determine what is happening. perhaps seek a second opinion
