what is the most dangerous stage in your pregnancy?

hi, this is my first pregnancy.  i am only 4 weeks 1 day along.  i know that the first trimester is the most delicate time, but is particular few weeks that are most common for things to go wrong?  what are the biggest factors to m/cs?  are there any signs?  if all is well with your first doctor appt, are you in pretty good shape?  than they predict if something is going to go wrong?  sorry for all of the questions.  my husband and i are so excited about this pregnancy.  we just want the baby to be healthy and a safe pregnancy.  any help is appreciated!

If they draw blood, they will be able to tell from your bloodwork if anything is "off" with the baby..... You should be fine! Just relax new mommy!!!! *LOL*

thank you so much!!!  i will be SOOOOO relieved after 12 weeks!  the posts say that it is unlikely they will do u/s during my first doctor appt.  does that mean that i will not know if my baby is okay until my 12 week appt?  or can they tell from the bloodwork?

All right... it says the period of greatest risk for birth defefcts is 3-8 weeks after conception in which organ formation begins and completely form.

End of 12 weeks your risk of m/c decreases.

At 23 weeks most preemies can survive.

Let me look through my papers and tell you some things... I'm taking this from a page in my notebook titled Physiology of Pregnancy that a doctor put together.

There are four stages of development beginning with fertilization. The first stage is the zygote (which is when the egg and sperm meet and create a ball of cells/DNA). The second is pre-embryo which is the first two weeks of pregnancy in which tissue and placenta form. The third stage is embryo, which is weeks 2-8, in which organogenesis takes place (the creation and formation of vital organs). Finally, the fourth is fetus which is 8 weeks up until birth in which growth and development take place.

Each stage of pregnancy presents it's own unique dangers. Obviously, the during the early stages, your baby's organs are developing and baby is making its own bone marrow, blood in the liver, and the spleen.

I have another book that has a chart that's a lot easier to read... hold on...

The first trimester is the toughest... Once you pass 12 week's, you are pretty much home free.. They alway's say that if something is going to happen it happens with in the first 12 week's of pregnancy...... Signs of mc's.. Horrible cramps, bleeding, a fever.... If your first appt is good, then you should just relax! If your doctor say's your fine, then trust him/her..... Just think, your only a few week's away from hearing your little one's heartbeat! And that alone is worth the wait!
