Choosing a facility for IMRT

I was under the impression that my urologist was sending me to a hospital where I would undergo my IMRT so I have been asking the radiology department questions.  They are ACR certified - does that many anything to anyone here? As it turns out, he isn't sending me to the hospital where he saw me, but rather a new center that treats only prostate cancer.  The woman I spoke to at this center said the doctors own the facility and that they have been working in this area for 20 + years.  None of this means a thing to me.  The question then is how do you go about deciding on where to have the treatment performed?  I'm in Columbus Ohio.

Living in Columbus, Ohio, you have a major university medical facility at Ohio State University. Surely, they could provide a second opinion or other suggestions.

Hi,

Centers dedicated to particular diseases tend to have more streamlined procedures. You would also have the chance to meet other patients who have the same disease undergoing the same treatment.
Ultimately, the question is whether you can complete the treatment or not. If the hospital is too far that the travel may be problematic in the event of bad weather, then this would trump the benefit of going to that hospital.
