3 year old w/ cough of 2 months

Doctor gave her anti-allergy initially but did not work. After 2 weeks, her doctor heard wheezes in her lungs and x-ray showed pneumonitis. She was given Cefuxime Antibiotic for a week. After tratment, my daughter still has cough but doctor told us the wheezes are gone and it could be allergy.  I took her to another doctor who told me that it could be asthma or allergy..She gave my daughter Anti Allergy and Bronchodilator..  It's been two weeks but my daughter's condition is still the same...She would be well for some time and  once or twice a day would cough continously..My sister who is a nurse told me to ask our doctor about using prednisone...pls give me some advise..thanks.

can I ask you is your daughter growing like she should? I mean is she on the growth chart as normal heigth and weight for her age?  I may have another idea of what you could have her checked for and  although not something you would want to think about but CF (cystic fibrosis).  usually children that are on the abnormal small side both height and weight and have some of the symtoms you speak of are checked for this.  It involves blood work and a few other test.  It's just a thought and another route to try.

speaking from experience the dr may be on the right track. your daughter may have allergy induced asthma. have you had her allergy tested. asthma is very hard to diagnos in children usually under 5 years old. there are pulmonary funtion tests that need to be done and takes some cooperation on the childs part. have you asked them about trying singular 4 mg for a few months and see if the coughing subsides. I am not a fan of prednisone. It can have long term effects, but that is usually if it is used for an extended period of time.  If they are going to use is to take down the inflamationo of the lung lineing for now this would be ok.  It should help the cough.  I would see a pediactric pulmonary dr.  best of luck to you both.
