9 year old son with bumps on back of throat

Hi,
Our 9 year old son has about 6 or 7 bumps on the back of his throat.  They've been there for about four weeks and possibly longer.  We discovered them when he was complaining that he had trouble swallowing certain foods.  Since then he says he no longer has trouble with swallowing and no pain, however, the bumps remain.  The bumps range from around 1/16 to 1/8 inches in diameter and do not appear to be sore.  What on earth could this possibly be?  Is it something to be concerned about or will they go away on their own?

Thank you for helping us.  My wife and I are very concerned.

It is hard to say what these are without taking a look into your son's throat.  It could be swelling of the many glands that are on the tongue from a recent viral illness.  I would suggest letting your son's doctor take a look at these bumps if they continue to persist.  A quick look will give a doctor a better idea as to their origin.

it probably is just tonsilar lymph tissue...its normal and can be due to a virus....my daughter had them...theyre sort of elongated and slightly elevaton on the back of the throat....good luck
