Adult Viral Croup

I am 65 years old, 6 days into viral croup diagnosed on day 4 by an MD. Am taking 600mg of guaifenesin in tablet form (over the counter) 3 x a day, herbal teas, humidified bedroom...but it seems worse, especially starting at 2am. Tried sleeping sitting up and that is better but not good enough.

Used a personal steamer with a disk of menthol for 15 minutes yesterday evening. I'm fine while breathing steam, but not at other times.

Is there no relief from the cough?

Your doctor should check you again.  If this is viral your doctor may give you a strong cough suppressant.

A cough suppresent, long overdue, was finally prescribed after 8 days of rib-cracking coughing. Just plain old codeine in a syrup. Helped a lot.

So, if anyone else has this cough, urge your doc to strongly consider this sap.
