I get cronic morning caughing. The flem (phlegm) that is caughed up is clear and I have been to the Dr. who has said thery think it might be allergies. I have used Claritin as directed with no results. Any thoughts?

Chronic cough is a very common problem.  It can indeed be caused by allergies, but also by many other causes.  This can be the result of a chronic inflammation of the sinuses either from an infectious or noninfectious cause.  It could be from a nonallergic inflammation of the upper airways called vasomotor rhinitis.  Also this could even be from chest involvement such as asthma that often presents as a morning cough.  The fact that you have no response to Claritin® (loratadine) doesn’t point towards or eliminate any of these.  I would work closely with your doctor to try to pinpoint the problem and then aim therapy at eliminating or controlling the problem.
