Why can't you take deep breaths? Do you have asthma or any lung problems? What is your age? Do you have heart problems?
Orthopnea or orthopnoea (Greek from ortho, straight + pnoia, breath) is shortness of breath (dyspnea) which occurs when lying flat,[1] causing the person to have to sleep propped up in bed or sitting in a chair. It is the opposite of platypnea.
Until you get this shortness of breath figured out, maybe you can try sleeping on an incline to see if that makes you feel better. Obviously go see a doctor to figure out WHY you have difficulty sleeping on your back without feeling short of breath.
Valerian root/ Extract can be found close to the supplement section of your local pharmacy. It is a natural sleep aid. it smells awful but realy helps put you to sleep.
