I have had trouble breathing for almost 3 years now.  It seemed to start after I was exposed to some bug spray.  I was treating a home and had set a (bug bomb) off that failed to work. When I went back into the home to inspect the effectiveness of the insecticied, the (bug bomb) when off in my face as I leaned over to pick it up to discard of it.  Right after that I got a severe sore throat and cold like symptoms it took a while but I recovered. However, from that point on I have felt short of breath.  If I get a cold or the flu the problem worsens.  I feel like I have mucuc (something) stuck in my thoat all the time.  I can cough up the mucus sometimes it is bright blood tinged other times it is yellow or clear.  I cough constantly all day long. I can feel something deep inside of my chest it makes a barking sound if I cough hard enough to move it.  When I lay down I feel like my airway is partly obstructed.  If i cough up mucus the obstructed feeling still never really goes away.  Also, I remodel old homes on a regular basis. I have went to my local doctor and he checked my thyroid by palpation, lung sounds, and lymphnodes  did a breathing test that came back slightly abnormal but nothing to be concerned about I think he said it was 80% of normal.  He then concluded that I was normal and sent me home with some nasal spray.  But I can't breath! What do you think is wrong?

It sounds like you have been exposed to irritants for some time, especially since you remodel homes. That bug spray blast didn't help things either. Has the doctor gotten a chest xray, or better yet, a CT scan of your lungs? The CT scan can give a detailed insight as to what may be going on with your lungs. If these exposures have caused lung scarring, then it will show up on a CT. A person does not need perfect PFT's to have lung disease. Because you are still having problems, further investigation is warranted perhaps by starting with the CT scan of your chest as a beginning with more tests depending on what they find. Is this doctor that you are seeing a pulmonologist? It would be probably be a good idea to see one at this point. Sunny
