I can't breathe

I can't seem to breathe right, I take what seems like a deep breathe but is never enough. I especially have trouble breathing through my nose, but I do not feel stuffed up. It feels worse when I lay down. I have a slight pain in my ears as well.

What could this be?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Strange as it may seem, nasal obstruction can make it feel like you can’t get a deep breathe, no matter how much you breathe through your mouth.  You should be examined to see what can be done about the difficulty breathing through your nose.

But, we shouldn’t assume that the problem is just with your nose being blocked.

Difficulty getting a truly deep breath is usually due to chronic anxiety.  But there are many causes related to disease of the heart and lungs.  You should arrange for a medical exam to assess your heart and lungs, followed by a chest x-ray and pulmonary function tests (PFTs).

I would get your nose examined first and then, your heart and lungs if opening your nasal passages doesn’t resolve the deep breath problem.

Good luck.
