Inhaled Foreign Object ?

Hi,

I had a strange experience. I was relaxing today with a candy in my mouth and I fell asleep. I suddenly woke up from coughing and a choking sensation, and it felt like I had inhaled the candy!

Is it possible that the candy went down into my lungs ? I don't have any acute respiratory problems, but my throat fells a bit strange - u know the sensation when you almost get food in the respiratory pipe. The strange thing is that it is now 8 hrs or so since this happend and I still have this strange feeling !

Any thoughts ?

What ended up happening? Did you find out if you actually inhaled it into your lungs? I'm afraid the same thing has happened to me

This is probably what you experienced (I did, too; see my post)...  Anytime something goes down the wrong way, indeed when someone "drowns," the vocal chords snap shut to protect the lungs from aspirating a foreign body.  It's definitely a choking sensation, and you can't get air in.  My experience was unrelated to swallowing anything, but seems the phenomenon was the same.  Hope this helps, and hope for some feedback on my question!

Thanks.  It seems that she is not contagious.
