Not sure what's up?

I have had a severe cough going on 7 weeks now.  I tire very easily and have crackle noises in my throat area when I lay down.  No fever, but a bit sweaty on and off.  My cough seems dry and unproductive for a day or two and then croupy with the production of yellow mucous.  I had a routine chest Xray 3 monts ago that showed a "mass" consistent with scar tissue (that was not there in a previous test 4 yrs. ago).  Additionally, I 've had a cough/sore throat on and off for about a year.  The cough was never this severe or long lasting until now.  Five weeks ago, Dr. gave me a Z-pk, 6days of Prednesone and Advair.  Nothing helped.  Scheduled for the breathing test and another xray this week and then will meet with Pulmonary Dr.

Does this sound like a lung disease or an infection?

Thanks.

Your symptoms aren't all like mine.  I have the on and off cough but its rarely productive and if it is it is clear.  I do have the same "swety issue".  If the cardiologist can't find anything you might want to try having a blood test for Mycoplasma.  Its a tricky little bugger which few Doctors seems to take as a serouis chrinic condition which it can turn out to be.

You may or may not have this, just another thing to look for.  Get the heart checked out too.  Better sae then sorry.

Good luck.

No, the "mass" is in the right middle lobe.  When I say sweaty, I mean I wake in the night and feel sweaty at times during the day when I shouldn't.  And, no, my neck does not seem to bother me.

Thanks.

Just out of curiosity was the "mass" that appears to be scar tissue by any chance around the lower part of your left lung?  When you say a bit swety, do you mean you feel hot when you shouldn't be or wake up at night sweaty?  Does your neck bother you in any way?
