Breathing Problem

This is my boyfriends explanation of his condition. I've told him to go see a doctor, but he won't. I realise without consultation a true evaluation is difficult to diagnose, but I would appreciate a general outline or a possibility of what it could be. Thank You.

"Everytime I take a breath like regular breathing, I breathe just fine, it just feels like some of the air that's supposed to come out gets stuck in my chest, and every other breath after that, so I've got to take a deep breath to open that thing in my chest, then my chest feels empty again, it's just sometimes when I take that deep breath it doesn't open up so I've got to keep taking deep breaths so the thing will open up. But then right after it does, the next breath I take feels like it did before".

He also has a stinging pain for like 2 seconds, between his shoulder and neck.

Hi this question is about my husband who is stubborn
and having medical problems, He sweats alot, and has a
real bad hacking cough that causes himnot to breathe,
He coughs up no mucous, and he seems to cough at night
or when he gets worked up, But the cough isnt constant,
He was sick for about two weeks with another cough before
this, He also says his shoulder and upper back hurt, He may
have pulled a muscle by the cough. I Will also say that
just a few months ago, he had pain in his arm and numbness
in his leg, and pain and numbness in his fingers, all on the same side of his body,  He never went to a doctor and it seemed
to go away, but he suffered through that for months,
He also has lost wieght, anyways, I dont like the cough
it scares me, im afraid he will not start beathing again,
  WHAT CAUSES THIS ?   jODY

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
This description sounds like intermittent air trapping.  This would be due to blockage in the airways of the lungs.

The first step to finding the cause should be to see a pulmonologist.  A lung specialist will do a thorough exam along with complete pulmonary function tests and a chest x-ray.
