Post Nasal Drip i think?

I have had post nasal drip and severe sinus problems for many years now. I had an operation to remove a cyst and some polyp's about 5 years ago. This never stopped the post nasal drip, and i have since had ct scans done and it reveals that i once again have polyps. I seem to be getting different story's from every specialist i see, with the most recent one saying that the polyps wouldn't be causing you trouble and there is nothing he can do.

I get sinus infections very often (once a month at least) and even with flushing with saline sprays etc these often last weeks and i am very sick.

The post nasal drip is very thick and feels like its stuck in the back of my nose - if that makes any sense?
It is thick and annoying to swallow and it causes bad breath.

I have tried every nasal spray on the market, and my GP has prescribed me most drugs he knows of to help the situation. None of which have worked, or even remotely helped.

Is there something i/my gp could have missed? Are there any drugs on the market that could reduce these symptoms or cure them?

Thanks

No, i haven't seen an allergist. Probably the best action from here?

I have used the sinus rinse bottle - doesnt help generally but if i feel i have a blockage and use it non-stop it sometimes clears.

As for sprays, i know i have used Nasonex and Rhinocort and several others i cannot remember the name of. The ones you buy in the chemist i have tried as well.

I have tried many decongestants, none of which have helped. As for the Afrin ( i just researched it) - and those sprays, like the chemist ones have bad rebound effects for me - After one use, my nose tends to block up - the drip does stop a bit with this, but obviously with worse side affects.

I do drink alot of water, although i drink/eat a bit of dairy products too. I have tried getting off these foods for around a week and it didnt help. Should i go longer?

Thanks heaps!

Have you seen an allergist?  You may need allergy shots to gain control of this.

Also, nasal saline sprays have a very small effect.  Try the NeilMed sinus rinse bottle instead.  The greater volume of water makes it much more effective.

Exactly what nasal sprays have you tried?  Please list by category - steroid or antihistamine.  Have you tried atrovent (dries up the sinuses so it may not be the best thing for thick drainage) and NasalCrom?

Have you tried guaifenesen (Mucinex) and a decongestant?  Have you tried doing three day cycles of Afrin?  Three days on and three days off.  Don't exceed three days on as it can make things worse.

Lastly, do you drink plenty of plain water?  Water is vital to thin the mucus so that it drains more naturally.

Feel better.
