Sinus Odor

I have a bad smell coming from my nose.  It's has been that way for almost a year.  I am currently in High School.  I've been seeing the doctor and the antibiotics and nasal spray are useless.  I was later referred to an ENT who told me I have an inflamed Trachea (Not sure if it's the right name) so I had an endoscopic turbinate reduction.  I had congestion also before and can breathe A LOT better now but the BAD smell is still there.  The smell is so BAD that I STINK up the WHOLE room.  I CAN'T focus in school.  The smell also differs.  Sometimes it smells like poop, something burning, spoiled, and undefined smell.  I hear insults from teachers, adults, and students everyday.  They all know it's me and I lost a lot of friends.  What is causing this smell?  Is it possible that there is something wrong with my insides that's causing the smell?  HELP ME!  I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Halitosis is a common problem among humans.  The cause can be oral or non-oral.  More than 90% of cases of halitosis originate from the oral cavity.  When halitosis with an oral cause is diagnosed and treated most halitosis can be controlled.  Tongue coating, gingivitis and periodontitis are the most frequent oral causes, and tonsillitis the most frequent non-oral cause.

Bacteria (Fusobacterium nucleatum, Prevotella intermedia, and Tannerella forsythensis) are located in stagnant areas in the oral cavity, such as the back surface of the tongue and periodontal pockets.  These bacteria release volatile, bad odor sulphur compounds.  The management of halitosis involves determining and eliminating the causes, which includes identifying any contributory factors, because certain medical conditions are also associated with characteristic smells.  Oral hygiene and treatments should include dental scaling, and root planing of the associated periodontal pockets to reduce the bacterial loading.  In addition to the normal oral hygiene practice, tongue cleaning with a toothbrush and use of mouthwash can also help.

Something weird also happened today.  Is it possible that there might be somethign wrong with my stomach?  I don't exercise much anymore and eat a lot of junk food. Here's the wird thing that happened.  I just ate chicken and I'm pretty sure I swallowed it down.  Then, like 5-10 minutes lates, I feel something in my throat so I spit it out and it was chicken covered in green sticky mucous.  Can you tell me what's wrong with me?  HELP ME! I'M SCARED! :(

I read over this and don't think I made any errors.  I eat Yogurt with the live bacteria every day and also take the supplement Culturelle.  I buy this at my local family owned pharmacy and have found it at WalMart for $17.  That price is for a month's supply.  No need for a speciality store.

Hi there,

I can understand your situation fully as i am going through the same thing and have been for a few years now.
I have trouble with my sinuses in that i am always 'full up' with a thick clear mucus. I also cough up alot of clear mucus too. I have been to the doctors and have proved clear from CT scans that i dont have sinusitus. I have taken several anti-histamine tablets and also nasal sprays with no results.
My oral hygiene is good as i visit the dentists regular, floss everyday, scrape the debris from my tounge everyday and use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash.
I am now trying 'yakult' drink (im from England so i duno if this is available in america) which is a live bacteria supplement to see if this is a stomach complaint as was just posted.
I too get comments all the time from people who think that i am in some way disgusting as im not clean or that i dont take care of myself. I know that i am probably 100 percent MORE hygienic that most people! I know none of my friends use mouthwash or floss.
Just try and remember there are others out there that understand what you are going through.
Take Care

I've suffered from green or yellow bad smelling mucus coming from my sinuses for over a year now.  I recently went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and was given Bactrim(not sure about the spelling).  Low and behold it also cleared up my sinus problem.  I spoke to the pharmicist who told me that Bactrim is also used for Sinus infections...  so why didn't my ENT prescribe this before having me endure 4 surgeries???  Oh well I'm not going to dwell in the past.  I'm thankful it's cleared up.  The smell coming from my nose was affecting my social life and I was becoming withdrawn and now I can talk face to face with people and not worry about the smell.  I even have a boyfriend now...  woo hoo.  Anyway, for all of you who are still sufferring from this disorder and haven't tried this medication please talk to your doctor.  It can't hurt to try it.  Good Luck.  By the way, I was told that I had a fungus in my sinsuses and sometimes it never goes away.  Never say Never!!  Also, I was put on a low dosage at first which temporarily cleared up my UTI and my sinsuses.  My doctor then put me on two double strength pills a day for 7 days and it has now been 2 weeks and no sign of sinus problems.

hello guys..there are so many diseases exist!!!...odor problem is a sensitive issue amongst all for sure....but U have to fight wit all da odds in life palzz.....don lose hope as U call urself depleted hope...I m kinda suffering from the same problem U mentioned..listen up.....I myself hav seen many ENTS and gastroenterologists( who are specialised in stomach an intestinal diseases) for my foul odor problem..The main thing I found that both nose and the stomach are the culprits in my case...for nose stuff U have to do the NASAL IRRIGATION.....thiz iz very simple to do......in 8 oz glass of lukewarm water, mix 1/2 tsp of  salt( preferably non iodized) and 1 pinch baking soda........then with da help of rubber bulb syringe U use the whole saline inside both da nostrils..U have to lean forward in front of the basin for sometim so all da water dripped down from da nose...all da crustz will get out when U blow ur nose gently....if ur nose is dry u can use petroleum jelly in the front part  but not very inside, ur malodor will be vanished for like 3-4 hours or may be long.......it varies..do use jelly after washing the nose...so U can do it b4 goin to school....u Knw...U can reduce ur symptoms in a gr8 deal........it has already been a lon mess...... I will tell u about da stomach shortly......till den u chill out palzzz
